The acting was excellently done by Chris Hemsworth and most of the children used in this film. It well depicts the action scenes with graphic injuries that not only look real, but Chris Hemsworth also acted really well acting like he was genuinely hurt throughout the movie. The entire idea and concept of this movie to try and save this boy, even after being told not to, just shows even further that when a man has nothing to lose, pain means nothing. The would-be hero is obviously a seasoned veteran of a violent business and foreign military service. ‘Tyler Rake’ discusses having served multiple tours of duty in Afghanistan, but the character’s handling of weapons and hand-to-hand combat style strongly suggests special operations training and experience. To his credit, Chris Hemsworth does a phenomenal job of portraying a veteran expert of close-quarters battle techniques with long guns, handguns, knives, and weapons of opportunity.

This film represents a different approach to the classic story of rivaling criminals and the people caught in the middle. Instead of focusing on the crime lords, however, the film centers on an abducted son and the grief-stricken mercenary determined to obtain personal absolution through the protection and deliverance of the boy.

When it comes to the setting which is the nations of the eastern Indian Ocean region, the scenery and cities provide new and exciting settings for most Western viewers. The idea of a mercenary for hire is not unfamiliar, but the provided glimpses into the corporate and operational sides of that industry is a welcomed change.

All in all, the film is a full-throttle action flick from the get-go but paced with just enough dramatic pauses to keep the viewer from becoming exhausted by the tempo. Certain realities must be suspended, as they do for all fictional Hollywood tales, and once that’s accepted the viewer is guaranteed to enjoy the feature. My only complaints are the extreme amounts of abuse the human body is demonstrated to be able to endure and yet still function at impressive levels, and the unbelievable reliability of the communications equipment utilized.
