He reminds me of Thomas Cromwell in Wolf Hall in that they both escape the mire of Putney/Cokeworth and their awful fathers despite rampant British classism. They're also omnicompetent and extremely intelligent and intellectual men with vicious self-defensive and offensive streaks who serve despots, they mourn Lily/Liz, Thomas Cromwell has many adopted sons alongside his biological Gregory, and Severus... has Harry*.

6.) The themes and messages are well-realised - especially the motherhood theme.

7.) Open any random page and you'll see why Jo's writing style is infectious.

8.) A litany of loveable and hateable side characters and an intriguing backstory - the fuckass Marauder fandom, while OCs atp, is standing entirely on the shoulders of the giant Jo. Regulus, Luna, Bellatrix, Lucius, Andromeda, Tom, Dudley, Neville, and so many more. There's a reason it's perhaps the most prolific and expansive fandom of all time.

4. In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?

VESPER — well the obvious answer is the circles but to be honest I think the inquisition played a bigger role in her character building. she was custom built to become The Inquisitor and everything else was background that would flavor her being in that position (circles included)

LIRA — definitely the cousland/ferelden lore, and also the relationship with papa cousland. I wanted a cousland who was Good at being a cousland (all the better to fuck her up)

ENIKO — a lot of niko came together back before I knew too much about dwyrain but the population being predominantly human definitely had some impact in a) him being a half elf and b) how he interacted with the wider world (especially being taken in by sir)

10. If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person? 

VESPER — I don’t think any part of her character is specifically tailored to be compatible with cullen—I’d have made her a mage regardless, and her views are her own with or without him—but I do think their shared (ish) familiarity with the circles (and the circle’s shortcomings) helps them connect

LIRA — let’s be honest lira is more tailored to be Incompatible with anyone. the inability to slot their edges together for years and years is a feature not a bug in the lira/alistair relationship. two guys who know each other so well and have been through so much together and still cannot figure things out. they're so important to me

ENIKO — absolutely none of niko is tailored to be compatible with anyone and the fact that everyone he’s ever had a Thing(TM) for is a glowing beacon of a person whose light sears and unmasks him is a funny little coincidence. (middy really blindsided him)

11. Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?

VESPER — yeah! I knew she was demi ages and ages and ages ago

LIRA — I’m not sure I did? she kind of just showed up and immediately started being miserable and standoffish and messy. her sexuality unfolded like the rest of her story: perfectly formed and tragic and there for me to uncover

ENIKO — niko has been through like four different sexualities. I know so little about him and that’s how he likes it. I really thought he was just gay for the longest time before he started getting multifaceted and complicated

16. What is something about your OC can make you cry?

VESPER — how much she gives to everyone else and how little she gets back for it

LIRA — everything. bro have you seen what the Warden deals with? all of it. (her family. her future. everything that could have been and won't and how she refuses to try to hold on to any of it)
