You hear rustling in the grass, and Asra straightens, eyes widening. He reaches for your hand on instinct, and you lace your fingers together, squeezing his hand tight. The rustling grows louder, and Asra tenses, stepping in front of you. “Don’t worry,” he starts to say, and then the grass ripples in all directions, towering above the two of you.

Asra glances around, and you feel something wrap around your leg. You have just enough time to cry out before it yanks you into the air, pulling your hand from Asra’s. He shouts your name, and you grab his hand again, but the grass flings you both into the air.

“Hold on!” Asra says. “I’m going to try something—”

You feel his magic flow through you, flow into the grass, but instead of letting you go, the grass seems to quiver. You can sense it feels almost… joyful. The world tilts as a stalk wraps around Asra’s waist and flings the both of you into the air.

Asra starts laughing. “Oh! The grass just wanted to play!”

With a burst of magic, the two of you are effortlessly thrown and caught and thrown, again and again, until you manage to convince the grass to let you back down to the ground with a gentle use of magic. As you steady yourself on the ground, the grass stalk wrapped around Asra dips him toward you, upside-down.

Asra’s laughing, his curls hanging, a slash of red across his cheeks. He’s at just the right height where your faces are perfectly aligned, even though you are upright and he’s upside down. He reaches for you, grinning so hard his cheeks are dimpled, and you smile back as you draw closer.

“Wait,” you say to the quivering grass, and it stills, perhaps sensing your intentions. Asra arches an eyebrow, and your smile widens at him. “Hold still,” you tell him and the grass both.

“Oh?” Asra asks, smirking. “And why do you—”

You kiss him, cupping his face between your palms, and you feel his sigh against your chin. It’s a little awkward, at first, aligning your mouths properly—but soon it’s perfect, and Asra lifts his arms to hold your hands. When the kiss ends, you kiss his chin and smile down at him. He smiles up at you, and you know that if he wasn’t upside-down he’d be smirking at you.

And then he grabs your hands, his magic surging, and the grass throws you both into the air again, carrying you both across the prairie towards a verdant forest. Asra is laughing, never letting go of your hands once, and his joy is infectious. The air catches you both on an updrifting spiral, and Asra pulls you close, steering the two of you to the ground.
