You were worried because Elliot rarely ever calls you, he mostly texts.
Rushing from the subway, and making your way to his apartment, you were unprepared for what you found.
According to his text, he told that his door was unlocked and to just come in. You texted him back when you were about to enter his building, making your way up the concrete steps.
Heading up to his floor, you and opening the door, you had to try really hard not to laugh at what you saw.
There was Elliot, yes Elliot Alderson, black clothes covered in what could safely be assumed was flour, and bits of chocolate, holding a small cake in his hands.
Flipper was excited to see you too, as she was running back and forth, weaving in between both yours and Elliot’s legs and barking.
“Hey babe.” you smiled
“Hey. So Darlene said it means more if I didn’t just buy one so she helped me pick a recipe, and I tried. I don’t know if it’s any good”
“Babe. You didn’t have to do this. I know birthdays and holidays aren’t really your thing.”
“I wanted to. Darlene says just because I don’t like them doesn’t mean that, they don’t mean something to you”
“I don’t really care about any of that. I just want to be with you in whatever capacity you are able.”
Your conversation was cut short by a knock at the door, so Elliot sets the cake down on his small counter and answers it, taking the food from the delivery guy.
“I got your favorite.” he says with a small smile.
“You didn’t have to El-really.”
“I wanted too. He sets the food bags onto his small table as he began pulling out the containers.
You ate in silence. Just enjoying each other’s presence.
Honestly you couldn’t ask for a better birthday. You didn’t want anything but to spend time with your boyfriend and his dog.
You almost miss it because he said it so quietly but you couldn’t believe it when you heard him utter, “I love you.” That was the first time he has ever said those words to you. It nearly brought you to tears as you threw your arms around him and you said it back. A very small smile on his lips as you place a chaste, soft kiss to his mouth.
