As it happened, it was a warm Tuesday, and not too far from Canterlot High. Despite the graduation ages ago, Sunset never really steered too far from it. Whether it was longing for being able to go to her old world at any point, or because most of her group of friends was also living in that area, it was hard to tell. But probably both.
One friend in particular was not amongst those. Living farther, in Seattle, it wasn’t like they could see each other at a whim: but Sonata did make time to come over. Especially when-
“Tacos!“ She laughed at the prospect. Sunset, despite a rather formal attire that included a feather brown cap, had settled their meeting at a local dinner with great tacos. It didn’t specifically have loads of those on Tuesdays, but hey, you can’t have everything.
“Help yourself,“ Sunset sat down at her earliest convenience, and Sonata just followed along. Sunset then dropped the cap on her lap. “I may not make much with this job, but I can at least treat you big time.“
“Whoa, you really grew up!“ Sonata continued, as if she just now had gauged the size difference. Sunset had grown some noticeable inches since last time, while Sonata continued a very slow aging process. “I wish I could get taller. People might take me more seriously then.“
“You’re plenty serious,“ Sunset said, though a laugh betrayed her stance on the matter. Sonata sighed.
“Not even you, huh. No wonder I can’t get anything going despite all these years.“
“Ah… Sorry.“ Sunset coughed in order to try and straighten up her will to laugh. “I know it’s been hard for you, still. You’re… still not singing at all, huh?“
No response. Sunset decided it was a good time to make some orders. They managed to settle on some tacos without too much of the awkward silence. Sunset insisted on the subject, despite that.
“Naturally, it IS very hard to get around without skills developed over a millenia… But you said you had ideas when you left last time.“
“Mhm! But they tend not to amount to anything. And it’s hard to be motivated when I have no one to turn to. Your friends are nice: you are too. But…“
Now it was Sunset’s turn to be silenced. Right. With Aria’s death and Adagio being… Adagio, she couldn’t be expected to have anyone as close as them anytime soon: or at any point, rather. No human lasted a millenium. She needed an alicorn princess or something-
That struck a cord with Sunset. She got to thinking.
“Sonata. Do you remember how long you were supposed to be banished for?“
“Noooo idea. I thought it was forever. But it’s not like I wouldn’t try to go back, as I did with that portal… thingy… on the school grounds. That didn’t go well.“
“Maybe not then,“ Sunset spoke, arms crossed, and fingers swirling an unloaded pipe. ”But Princess Twilight holds the best standing that a princess can hope for. If you plead your case to her now, maybe something will come of it.“
“… Are you getting my hopes up?“ Sonata asked, first tilting her head, but then grabbing the incoming taco that was their order and wielding it threateningly against Sunset. “You were planning this, right? It’s not all the time you bring me to eat when I pass by.“
“Maybe I was,“ Sunset said, nibbling on one end of the pipe and shooting a smile. “Maybe I wasn’t. Who’s to say? But won’t you agree it’s better than not trying it? You can’t just get used to the standing you’re in, girl. I… worry about you.“
Silence. For a while, neither party spoke. But then, Sonata took a bite of the taco. And her eyes lit up.
“It’s delicious!! … OK, you win. Thanks, Sunset. I feel like I was giving up there. That’d be lame, wouldn’t it. But let’s do it! Today!“
Now that was better. Happy at a successful attempt, Sunset took a bite of her own taco.
It was also delicious.
txcotuesday
;; stupid fucking anon asking @txcotuesday if it’s...
thank you so much for saying what I was too scared to say
;; I got your back, homie.
I don’t think you should be afraid for having Sonata expression emotions outside the range we saw in Rainbow Rocks. Be they dark or not.Â
(What's boardgame-online, and am I allowed to join..?)
It’s a very hectic online board game. it’s simple, easy, free, and requires no prior signing up.Â
And yes, everyone is invited.
“Don’t be alarmed, but I may have just run a guy over.” (From Aria, because she would totally be this chill about it)
“Why would I be alarmed?… Humanity is entirely overrated… For most, life is worthless… There’s only a few of us that actually matter…”
