Novo Line (US)
Novo Line uses outdated equipment to create hyper-modern idiosyncratic destructions of Electronic Dance Music. His LP Movements was one of our favourite records of 2016 here at MiMa HQ. Highly recommended to fans of Lorenzo Senni, Actress, Lee Gamble, Theo Burt etc.
âYouâd have to be either a madman or a genius to make music with two obsolete Atari ST computers in 2016. But this kind of constraint is essential for the artistic approach of Nat Fowler, aka Novo Line, who likes to push old synthesizers an archaic software to their limits while imposing extreme musical restrictions to himself. It brings to mind the kind of electronic dismantling Theo Burt delivered with last yearâs stunning Gloss, but Novo Line is carving a sound all of itâs own.â â Factmag
Boomkat about his recent LP Movements (on Not Wavingâs label Ecstatic Recordings):
âWhilst at times it may recall the saltiest digital tone and gait of early Chicago house and Belgian new beat, thereâs a futuristic funk and idiosyncratic ambiguity to Movement that entirely belongs to Novo Line. It really does make for one of the yearâs finest and most addictive dancefloor mutations, bar none.â
Twoonky (IT)
Duo from Italy making improv dance music, with electronics, guitar and the occasional vocals. Loose, slightly psychedelic and playful. Results end up somewhere in between 80âs pop songs deconstructions and a more minimalist Black Dice.
