I hope they actually talk to you as well as giving you homework. Insist they take time with you, and listen. (don’t know why I felt the need to tell you that. I just want you to get the support you need, not drown in paperwork)

This is the only homework I've been given, and we did a considerable amount of talking in that hour previously. I doubt this will be his only assessment tool.

I find myself sighing and wondering what the hell the use is of all this, though. I only get one more free appointment with him after tomorrow, and I can't afford their usual rate. They've said they may be able to work with me. I suppose we'll see.

Ahhh, yeah I see these as being somewhat related in ways, like how the thumb is a finger but not all fingers are thumbs.  So an aphrodisiac can lead to a shag or die scenario if it has a magical basis, but it can also be a subtle tool of romance and seduction.

I'm thinking of aphrodisiacs being used on a date between two consenting adults in a relationship in order to heighten their senses and arousal for each other.  

I'm thinking of oysters eaten across the table during a fancy party and each of them catch each other's eye in moment of awareness that seems to span for hours and later introduce themselves. Maybe they go home with each other, maybe they just talk for a while and start dating.  

Or even just Stiles putting his foot in it when Derek brings him tea sweetened in honey and saying "did you know honey is considered an aphrodisiac?  Are you trying to send some kind of message with this?" and Derek gets slightly flustered, turns away on his stool next to Stiles and gruffly says "drink your tea."

Then there's the magical aphrodisiac scenario where one of the characters is just aroused all the time through ~magic~ but still has complete control of their life (if not their dick). I think this one is a lot of fun - I don't particularly want to see them hook up with other people, but I would take pleasure in discomfort and pining.  Consider this: Derek accidentally ingests something, and then he spends the afternoon with Stiles with his skin tingling and his breath catching in his chest every time Stiles moves a certain way. He goes home more aroused than he usually is, but then Stiles was wearing an old threadbare tshirt as his only layer.  So he takes care of himself a few times and falls asleep.  It isn't until the half way through the next day that he realizes something is really wrong, after he's spent three hours riding his favourite toy and he's still hard, everything overly sensitive and it feels like he's on fire.  Deaton chides him for not coming to him sooner, and Derek mumbles "I thought it only... it was just..." Stiles.

Right?

Shag or Die on the other hand?  I usually enjoy the trope so long as the fact that there's a lack of consent is at least mentioned because while I think a dub con scenario can lead to the characters getting together and sharing the kind of emotional connectivity I crave, a non-con scenario doesn't give me the same kind of hope.  What I mean by this is that if Derek is hit by some kind of must-have-sex curse and Stiles is all like "yeah, sex, best curse ever!!" and just fucks him, I don't want Derek to get together with someone who would treat it like that.  But if Derek is hit by some kind of must-have-sex curse and Stiles is like "yeah, sex!!" but doesn't know it's a curse until later, and then there's a lot of angst about it, I'll probably enjoy the story.

I really always loved Luna. While at first Hermione was my favourite (bookworm, sort of a know-it-all and therefore not overly liked, had a hard time making friends), Luna resonated more with me. I feel for her because everyone writes her off without giving her the time of day. I also admire her because she doesn't let narrow-minded people get her down.

Not a character in general but motherfucking SLYTHERIN HOUSE. People who've only seen the movies I can sort of forgive for thinking that Slytherin is the "evil house" and they should just kill off everyone sorted into it (which, wow. People suggesting slaughter of fictional 11 year olds think they'd be sorted into Gryffindor? I got news for you son.) But people who've read the books and saw the "no, Harry, house doesn't determine how you turn out," and know that some Slytherins stayed behind to defend Hogwarts with their classmates? Were actually given the option in the books? Who know that one of the worst villains in the books was a fucking Gryffindor and one of the shadiest douchebags was a Ravenclaw and yet continue to say shit about how Slytherin is the evil house of evil need to learn to read and gtfo.

a character I just can’t sympathize with

There are several. Voldemort. Lucius Malfoy. Bellatrix Lestrange. A good chunk of Death Eaters and Pure Bloods (and Half-Bloods) who followed Voldemort not because they felt threatened or scared but because they thought he was totally sane and wasn't completely full of shit. And of course, the worst of the worst of the actual very worst: Dolores centaurfucking Umbridge. She is totally beyond redemption I can't even.

a character I grew to love

He started off as a sort of tactless comic relief sidekick but we all fucking know the Golden Trio would be crippled if they lost one of the three. Ron is important, and has strengths and weaknesses and flaws like any well-rounded character should. His negative traits are all traits I have so I can't fault them. His positive traits are all traits I lack, so I wish I was as awesome, loyal, brave, selfless and smart as Ron Weasley is.
