â~New Home~â
Hours had passed as Mark was fast asleep, he would slowly wake up as the first thing he became aware of was pain. A deep, throbbing ache behind his eyes, the kind of headache that made every thought feel slow and heavy, as his ears twitched. A low groan escaped him. The world felt wrong as his head felt like it weighed twice as much as it should and for several seconds he simply lay there, eyes shut, trying to remember what had happened. The Ink & Paint. He remembered that. The Stars had been there, Mickey, Felix, Pomni, Sonic and Mario. He remembered hearing some music. The long conversations. A drink. Then⊠Nothing. A cold knot formed in his stomach as he slowly opened his eyes. A dim lightbulb hung from the ceiling above him.
Its weak yellow light swung gently, causing shadows to crawl across the walls. The room looked old. Dusty. But more importantly⊠Unused. Wooden crates sat stacked against one wall. Metal shelves lined another as the air smelled stale. His ears flattened immediately as his body tensed. Then he noticed the ropes around his wrists, they were tied tightly behind his back. His ankles were bound together. His heart immediately began pounding as Marquinhos jerked against the restraints. The ropes bit into his fur as he let out a growl, it rumbled deep in his chest. His muscles strained. The rope didn't budge. Not even slightly. He tried again. Harder. But at last it did nothing. The panic began creeping in. A cold pressure sitting in the back of his mind.
Then he heard footsteps outside the room. His ears immediately swiveled toward the sound. He could hear two sets of legs walking towards the room. The lock rattled for a bit as the door creaked open. Light spilled into the storage room as two figures stepped inside. Marquinhos immediately recognized them. His eyes narrowed. Cuphead. Mugman. The older cup's grin widened the moment he noticed Marquinhos was awake. âWell, well.â Cuphead spread his arms dramatically. âLooky here Mugsy, Sleeping Beauty finally woke up.â Marquinhos immediately glared at them. âWhere the hell Iâm I?â Cuphead laughed playfully as Mugman shifted awkwardly beside him. Clearly less comfortable than his porcelain brother. The younger mug leaned over and whispered something into Cuphead's ear.
Marquinhos couldn't hear it. But whatever it was caused Cuphead to roll his eyes. âOh, come on. I did all the heavy lifting with him!â Mugman whispered again as Cuphead groaned dramatically. âYou're no fun.â The older cup pointed toward the hallway. âYou can have an easy job, go find a pay phone.â Mugman hesitated. His eyes flickered toward Marquinhos. For a brief moment, the cat thought he saw guilt there. Then Mugman quietly nodded. Without another word, he left. The door shut behind him. The lock clicked. Now it was just the two of them. Cuphead slowly walked forward and eventually he crouched down until he was eye level with Marquinhos. The grin never left his face. âHopefully your boss pays, kitty.â Marquinhos blinked. âYou better let me go..â he threatened quietly.
Cuphead would raise a brow as he stares at Mark for a few seconds before laughing. âTch! Fat chance bucko, until the boss agrees to pay your ransom⊠you arenât going anywhere.â The cat stared at him. Then blinked again. Slowly. âLet me go, and maybe I wonât bash your head onto the wall.â âMy head? Tch you really are just a brute, and again you're not leaving.â Cuphead looked genuinely pleased with himself. âYou're insane if you think the others wonât notice me missing.â âI've been called worse whiskers.â The grin widened. Marquinhos felt irritation immediately beginning to overpower the fear. Which honestly surprised him. Because somehow Cuphead was so irritating that anger was easier than panic. âWhat are you talking about?â Cuphead sighed dramatically. âAgain⊠As much as I enjoy repeating myself-â before he could finish his sentence Mark would interrupt him.
âWhy would you kidnap me?â âIsnât it obvious?â The cup pointed at him. âYour boss sees you as valuable and we think youâll be worth some dough.â Marquinhos growled loudly as Cuphead ignored it entirely. âLast night.â The cup leaned back slightly. âWe saw you hanging around the Ink & Paint.â Marquinhos' stomach tightened. Fragments of memory stirred. âAnd you were with all your buddies.â The grin sharpened. âAnd yâall seemed to be having tons of fun." The cat's eyes narrowed. âWhat did you do, you psychopath?â Cuphead rested his chin in his hands. âBe quiet! We saw an opportunity.â His tone remained cheerful. âAnd so⊠we took it.â A cold feeling settled into Marquinhos' chest as Cuphead continued. âLetâs just say you have a rather weak immunity to horse tranquillisers in your drink.â Marquinhos' claws dug into his palms.
But the cup didn't seem bothered. âYou got dizzy.â A finger went up. âYou wandered away from everybody after you left the bar.â A second finger. âMugsy and I followed you.â A third finger. âThen when nobody was lookingâŠâ The grin returned. âI knocked you out with a baseball bat.â For several seconds, Marquinhos simply stared at him. The memories still weren't fully there. Only flashes. Dark hallways. Dizziness. Trying to focus. Heavy footsteps. Then darkness. His stomach churned. Cuphead looked delighted by the reaction. âOh, there it is.â âWhat?â âThat look.â The cup pointed at him. âThe one where you're trying really hard not to lose your mind.â Marquinhos immediately lunged at Cuphead but the ropes stopped him. The sudden movement nearly knocked him over.
A vicious growl tore from his throat as Cuphead reacted instantly. A metal straw emerged from his head. The familiar weapon formed in seconds. He then pointed the barrel directly at Marquinhos. âKnock it off, or Iâll make you suffer, kitty.â Marquinhos glared at him with pure anger as his chest rose and fell heavily. For a moment neither moved. Then Cuphead tilted his head. âYou know, for somebody tied up, you're awfully confident in your ability to take me down.â The cat's eyes practically burned. âIf I get loose I swear to the celestials Iâll knock your porcelain head off and smash it!â Cuphead laughed immediately. âOh, that's adorable.â Marquinhos looked ready to bite through the ropes. Cuphead pointed the straw gun at him again. âYou know what I think?â âI don't care what you think.â âI think you're mad because this worked.â
The grin returned full force. âYou Stars always act like you're the smartest people in the room.â The cat's ears flattened. Cuphead leaned closer. âAnd then one little drink laterâŠâ The cup made a dramatic falling motion with his hand. âBoom.â Marquinhos growled again. The cup suddenly reached beside a crate. Grabbed a bottle. Then tossed it. The water bottle bounced awkwardly off Marquinhos' chest. The cat stared at it. Then at Cuphead. Then back at the bottle. âWow you're actually letting me live?â âYep.â âAnd now you're giving me water.â âHydration is important, besides we wouldnât wanna give you back without taking care of ya.â Marquinhos looked genuinely offended as Cuphead shrugged. âWhat? I'm not a monster.â Cuphead pointed at him. âSee? You're feeling better already.â âI hate you.â âGood.â The grin widened.
âThat just means you're awake.â Marquinhos groaned. The headache wasn't helping. Neither was Cuphead. Neither was the fact that he had no idea where he was. Cuphead eventually stood. Dusting off his gloves. âAnyway.â The cup headed toward the door as Marquinhos immediately spoke. âThey'll find me.â Cuphead paused. One hand resting on the door. The grin remained. But for a brief second⊠just one second⊠it looked slightly less confident. Then it returned. âThey're welcome to try, but donât get your hopes up kitty cat.â The door opened. Light flooded the room. Then it disappeared. The lock clicked. The footsteps faded. And Marquinhos was alone again. The storage room suddenly felt much quieter. Much colder. The cat looked down at the ropes binding his wrists. Then toward the door.
He would look at the untouched bottle of water. His headache still pounded as his heart still raced but despite all his anger, despite all his determination, one thought kept returning. Someone needed to realize he was missing. Hours had passed. At first, the moment Cuphead had left, he'd immediately gone back to trying to break free. He'd twisted. Pulled. Yanked. Tried working the knots loose. Tried snapping the rope outright. Tried forcing his paws through the bindings. Nothing had worked. The ropes refused to give. Now there were angry red marks around his wrists. The fur there was matted and damaged. Every movement sent fresh pain shooting through his arms. Even his ankles burned. Marquinhos sat against the wall breathing heavily. His muscles ached.
His headache hadn't completely disappeared either. The water bottle sat nearby. Half empty now. His ears flattened. He hated this. He hated feeling trapped. He hated feeling helpless. Most of all⊠he hated not knowing what was happening outside that room. Were the Stars looking for him? The thought made his stomach churn. A sound outside the room interrupted his thoughts. Footsteps. His ears immediately perked. Voices followed. Cuphead and Mugman. The brothers sounded like they were standing just outside the storage room. Marquinhos immediately leaned toward the door. Listening. â...I'm just saying, it doesn't make sense.â Mugman's voice. Nervous. Concerned. Cuphead sounded far less worried. âYou need to relax.â âI am relaxed.â
âYou don't sound relaxed mugsy.â There was a pause as Mugman sighed. âThe guy basically called us idiots.â That got Marquinhos' attention. Cuphead laughed. âHe did not.â âHe absolutely did.â The cup sounded offended. âHe said⊠and I quote⊠'I'm not interested in whatever scam you're trying to run.ââ Cuphead burst out laughing as Marquinhos frowned. Someone had already received the ransom demand. Someone knew something was wrong. A small flicker of hope appeared. Then Cuphead spoke again. âOh, this is too good.â âCupheadâŠâ âHe thought it was fake.â âOf course that rat did.â Marquinhos felt his chest tighten. A moment later the lock rattled. The door swung open. Cuphead walked inside wearing an enormous grin. The kind of grin that immediately made Marquinhos want to throw something at him.
Mugman followed behind looking significantly less enthusiastic. Cuphead crouched down in front of the cat. âWe got bad news for you whiskers.â Marquinhos immediately glared as Cuphead looked delighted. âYour boss says you're not worth the money.â The room went silent. The older cup spread his hands dramatically. âSo guess what?â The grin widened. âNo ransom means no rescue. No payout means you're stuck with us.â Marquinhos stared at him for a brief moment before rolling his eyes. Cuphead blinked. That wasn't the reaction he'd wanted. âWhat?â âDo you honestly expect me to believe that?â The cup looked offended. âI am deeply hurt that you wouldnât believe me.â âGood.â Cuphead pointed at him as he turned to Mugman. âYou see now Mugsy? That's why nobody likes cats.â
Marquinhos immediately growled as Cuphead grinned. âSeriously though.â His voice lowered slightly. âYour boss wasn't interested.â The words hung in the air as Mugman suddenly spoke. The cat couldn't help noticing that Mugman looked increasingly uncomfortable every time they visited. Cuphead seemed to enjoy the situation. Mugman looked like he was slowly realizing how bad of an idea it had been. The cup finally stood. âAnyway.â He pointed toward Marquinhos. âTry not to destroy the room, weâre renting it out for you.â Marquinhos immediately barked back: âTHEN DONâT TRY NOT TO KIDNAP PEOPLE YOU PORCELAIN JERK!â Cuphead groaned dramatically. As Mugman followed him. Then the door slammed shut. The lock clicked. Silence returned. For several seconds, Marquinhos sat there.
Staring at the closed door. Then he finally snapped. âYOU TWO ARE IDIOTS!â His voice echoed through the storage room. No response. âCOMPLETE IDIOTS!â There was still nothing as Marquinhos growled in frustration. The anger helped for exactly three seconds. Then the silence returned. The storage room felt larger now. His head still throbbed. Slowly, the cat leaned back against the wall. His breathing steadied as his ears lowered. Several days had passed. Marquinhos knew that much. Not because he had a clock. Not because anyone had bothered telling him. But because his body felt it. His stomach felt it. His mind felt it. The first day was anger. The second had been determination. The third had been frustration. After that⊠Everything started blending together.
The storage room had become his entire world. Four walls. One door. A single light. Crates. Dust. Silence. His wrists were covered in rope burns now. Every attempt to escape had only made them worse. The fur around them had been rubbed away in places. The skin underneath was red and irritated. Every time he moved his hands, pain shot up his arms. His ankles weren't much better. Even standing hurt. But at least the water helped. The food kept him alive. But he felt exhausted. His normally well-kept fur was messy. His scarf was gone. His ears drooped more often than not. Even his tail barely moved anymore. Worst of all was the uncertainty. Nobody had found him. Nobody had rescued him. Nobody had kicked down the door. Every day that passed made darker thoughts creep into his head.
What if they haven't noticed? What if they looked in the wrong place? What if Cuphead was right? Marquinhos hated those thoughts. He fought them constantly. Then it happened by accident. Cuphead wasn't even talking to him. Marquinhos had been lying against the wall with his eyes closed when voices drifted through the hallway. His ears twitched. A worker. Someone unfamiliar. The conversation wasn't particularly interesting at first. Mostly complaints. Arguments. The kind of meaningless chatter he'd heard dozens of times over the past few days. Then something happened. The worker grabbed something. The moment it happened Cuphead yelped. The worker laughed as Cuphead cursed him out. âLET GO OF MY HANDLE YOU MOCK!â The worker laughed harder.
Then the conversation moved away. The hallway went quiet. Marquinhos opened his eyes. Slowly. His ears stood up as he stared at the door. For the first time in days Marquinhos smiled. Hours later the lock clicked. The familiar sound immediately pulled him from his thoughts. The door opened. Cuphead walked inside carrying food. Mugman followed behind, he looked exhausted. Cuphead looked irritated. The cup tossed a sandwich toward him. It landed nearby. âTime for you to eat kitty.â Marquinhos didn't move. Cuphead frowned. âAre you planning on staring at it until it becomes more appetizing?â Nothing. The cat simply looked at him. Watching. Studying. Cuphead shifted slightly. Then frowned harder. âWhat is my cooking not good enough for you?â Marquinhos tilted his head as a tiny smile appeared.
Cuphead immediately groaned. âWhat?â The cat's smile widened. Mugman looked concerned. âHeâs smiling?â Cuphead pointed. âThat smileâŠâ Marquinhos laughed quietly. The sound immediately made Cuphead uncomfortable. Which was a very strange feeling. Because for days Cuphead had been the one laughing at him. Now the situation felt different. The cup folded his arms. âWhat?â Marquinhos slowly pushed himself upright. Every muscle in his body protested. His wrists burned. His legs hurt. His shoulders ached. But he stood anyway. Cuphead watched. Then blinked. Then blinked again. Because Marquinhos just kept standing. The cat was huge.
Cuphead had never properly appreciated that fact before. Most of their interactions involved Marquinhos sitting down or leaning. Or at least slumped against a wall. But him standing at full height? That was different.. Cuphead found himself looking upward. The realization visibly hit him. âI didnât realize that you were tallâŠâ Marquinhos smiled. Not warmly. Not kindly. But the kind of smile a predator gave when it finally understood something. Mugman immediately noticed it too. âUhâŠâ Cuphead took a small step backward. Just one. Marquinhos noticed. That made the smile bigger. The cat took a step forward. The room suddenly felt much smaller. Cuphead pointed. âStay back...â Another step. âMake me.â Another. âC'mon.â The cup looked toward Mugman. Mugman looked equally nervous. Marquinhos' ears flattened. Then came the growl. It vibrated through the room. The kind of growl that made instincts scream.
The kind that reminded everyone involved that Marquinhos wasn't just a cat. But he was built like a panther. And right now he looked ready to prove it. Cuphead and Mugman swallowed hard as the cat moved suddenly. One moment he was standing. The next both hands shot forward. His right hand grabbed Cuphead's handle. His left grabbed Mugman's. The effect was immediate as both brothers froze. Their bodies locked up. Their eyes widened. Cuphead stared. Mugman stared. Then Cuphead started laughing. Marquinhos blinked. The laugh got louder. Mugman looked horrified. âCUPHEAD!â âHe figured it out!â âCUPHEAD!â âOh this is terrible, the big strong cat has his paws on us!â Marquinhos stared. The cup was genuinely amused. Cuphead looked directly at him.
He would then grin at Mark. âYou knowâŠâ He laughed again. âThis one's kinda on us Mugsy.â Marquinhos growled as Cuphead nodded. âYep.â The cat's eye twitched. âFair.â Another growl. âStill fair.â Mugman groaned. He already knew what was about to happen. Cuphead probably did too. Marquinhos had finally run out of patience. The cat tightened his grip. Cuphead immediately stopped laughing. âWait-â Marquinhos slammed their heads together as a loud crack echoed through the room. Both brothers instantly went limp. Their bodies collapsed like dropped marionettes. Silence returned as Marquinhos stood there breathing heavily. His heart hammered in his chest. For several moments he simply stared. Waiting. Making sure they weren't moving. The cat immediately lowered himself to the floor.
The ropes remained. But now he had time. He grabbed the bindings around his wrists with his teeth. The rope scraped against his fangs. His jaw ached. He pulled harder. The fibers strained. Again. Again. Again. Finally- Snap. One side broke. Relief washed through him. He immediately worked on the rest. Minutes later the final binding dropped onto the floor. Marquinhos slowly stood. His arms felt strange without the restraints. His wrists hurt. His legs shook. His entire body felt weak. Marquinhos stared at Cuphead and Mugman as he noticed that they werenât moving. For several long seconds. His dark green eyes narrowed, then slowly, the feline crouched beside Cuphead. The cup was still unconscious. A bruise was already beginning to form along the side of his porcelain head.
Marquinhos folded his arms across his chest. Then leaned down slightly. A small grin appeared. âYou knowâŠâ His voice was quiet. Almost conversational. Cuphead, naturally, didn't answer. Marquinhos wasn't expecting one. The cat's grin widened slightly. âFor somebody who talks so much crap about someoneâŠâ He shook his head. âYou really should've learned when to stop.â His ears flicked. The storage room remained silent. Then Marquinhos leaned a little closer. âHere's a free lesson.â The smile sharpened. âNever mess around with a cat thatâs bigger than you.â For the first time in days, the words felt good to say. But because after everything⊠after the ropes, after the confinement, after being treated like a bargaining chip⊠but still⊠he had won. He'd gotten out. And they hadn't stopped him. Marquinhos straightened back up. His body immediately reminded him how tired he was. His shoulders hurt. His legs hurt. Everything hurt but he still had to walk home, with a sigh he would begin walking out the room.

"I have to bite my tongue when people criticize snw's Kirk because he is skinny when tos' Kirk wasn't but then in the same breath they'd laugh at snw's actor who plays kirk because he's "old" when he should be younger than shatner's Kirk (even when Wesley doesn't look old at all; even if he did so what he's doing a great job) I feel insane like good for you you're not fatphobic you're just spewing ageism all over your blog
I'm sorry this is really negative but please for the love of god stop talking about Wesley's age thanks"

Chapter 2 of (?)
TW: Description of Seizure
Previous Chapter:
What if instead of giving the Arkenstone to Thranduil and Bard, Bilbo waits to give it to Thorin on the ramparts? Chapter 1 of (?) I will
Trigger warnings; blood and bodily fluids mentioned.
I just went to the ER today.
For the last two weeks, I've been having pain in my lower left back. Originally, the pain was just a dull ache. So, I assumed I'd pulled a muscle somehow, and it would get better on its own.
Over the last couple of weeks, the pain slowly got worse. Not a whole lot to cause alarm, but just enough to make me think, "I might want to put a heat pack on it when I get home."
Then 3 days ago I noticed some discomfort when I peed. Again, it was mild, and I considered getting some wipes to help. Then, the next day, that discomfort increased 10x. It was painful and burning, and I immediately thought UTI.
So, I went to the urgent care, and they didn't find anything indicating a UTI. Just a small amount of blood in my urine. I was sent home with only instructions to drink plenty of fluid.
But over the next few hours, my pain kept getting worse. I was crying from the pain in my back while I drove home. I was nauseous, throwing up, and had chills I couldn't shake. My head felt like I was moving through a dense fog. Something wasn't right.
So, this morning, I skipped work and went to the ER. They checked for kidney stones, which I was negative for. Again, they found more blood in my urine but none of the other indicators of a UTI.
In the end, I was again told they aren't sure what is actually causing my symptoms. So, I was sent home with antibiotics in case there is an infection and told to limit my movement and lifting.
Long story short, everyone is unsure what is wrong with me, so they are just saying, "Here, take these antibiotics and see if that fixes it."
