As soon as Party embraced her, her arms instinctively wrapped around his neck. There wasn’t any reason for her not to accept a hug, but giving the situation she couldn’t help but feel guilty. “Sorry.” she mumbled, laying her head on his shoulder. 

        THE PURPOSEFUL AVOIDANCE OF HIS GAZE   —   it burns through her differently now than all the other times he’s looked at her. fidgeting hands toy with the skirt of her dress and she swallows hard before formulating an answer   ;   a likely disappointing one.

         there’s a million and one things kobra had faced in his lifetime. death, destruction, the downfall of mean. he’d watched friends and family of the like get killed or hurt at the hands of the ONE THING he truly, undeniably, hates the most. and he never thought he’d be in their shoes.

          the kobra kid was meant to live FOREVER, but perhaps forever only lasted these measly twenty-nine years. until his eyes flew open once more and he was in unimaginable pain. 

          but he’s alive. GODDAMN, he’s alive, and he’d never been happier.

               he’s alive, but he’s alone. and he’s scared ------

          he never realized how quiet the desert was until he had to walk it alone. he doesn’t know what had happened to jet-star, whether he died or had already found himself back at the diner. right now, he can’t even tell which way is UP. the cut on his lip cracks and bleeds every time he moves his mouth, the pain all over his body damn near excruciating with every step he takes. but he wasn’t raised to quit ; PARTY did not raise him to quit.

          kobra doesn’t realize he’s near the diner until he nearly runs into it. that front door had never looked so inviting, the sounds of voices from the inside never so heavenly to his ears. he pushes through the door with whatever goddamn strength he has left, his chest rising and falling in such shallow, slow breaths.
