TRIGGER WARNING ANIMAL DEATH . . . . . . . . . . . . About six months ago my neighbours bought a new kitten. His name was scratch. I often found scratch outside, underneath cars, in other neighbours yards. I personally brought the cat home at least 20 times and I know several of the other neighbours did as well. I spoke to the owner several times telling her I would find a home for the cat if she didn't want it- or would help her with tips to keep him inside. We live on a very busy street and I was terrified he would be killed. I was always greeted rudely and never thanked. She told me her kids (two young boys) often let him out. I suggested she kept the doors locked so they couldn't open them. But living beside her I saw her doors wide open all the time. Ive lived with cats my entire life. Ive never let a cat out regardless of my age. I understand accidents happen and they sneak out (one of my cats died this way). I was brining scratch home at least once a week. One night I was coming home from work in the pouring rain and let my dog out to pee. She noticed scratch hiding underneath the truck on the side of the road. I called him and he immediately came to me. I tried knocking on the door but no one answered so I kept scratch with me over night. That then moved into three days because I didn't know what to do. Im not into cat napping but I would have hated to see him killed. FINALLY after the third day the owner posted on social media that scratch was missing. I decided to give her another chance and brought him to animal services. He was picked up two days after that. I saw scratch outside less than 3 days later. After that I hardly saw him at all. I began to be hopeful that she was keeping him inside and that he would be safe and with his family still. The first time I returned him again she slammed the door in my face. She wrote an apology later for acting rudely and left it on my door. Then a few weeks ago I brought him back twice. Now, hes dead. Scratch was hit by a vehicle on that busy street. He was less than a year old. That cat always came when I called him no matter where he was. He was about 10 feet up in a tree before and came down to me. If I patted my chest he would jump into my arms. Now hes gone forever. Please please keep your pets inside. They are meant to be inside. If your pet loves the outdoors at least supervise its play. Leash it. Watch it. Dont let it near roads. Domesticated house cats are just that. HOUSE CATS. For all of you that stuck till the end, thanks for listening. I'm really sad and upset about this.
