I saw you posted about hereditary and I COMPLETELY forgot to tell you I finally watched it. i was home alone so I think I got a good viewing experience and just. god. I knew it was a great movie from seeing you and other people talk about it, but that it was sooooo good.
LITERALLY ITS SO GOOD ITS SO GOOD im pacing my kitchen rn thinking abt it like. its so fucking good i can’t even articulate why its so good but every single shot in that movie is deliberate like you could freeze frame ANY second of that movie and pick it apart!!! the opening shot of her miniature and the way it zooms in so you can’t tell when it transitions from miniature to the real scene, the way the music from the FIRST SCENE is so unnerving, the way it’s shot so that everything looks like it could plausibly be a miniature (i think they used some tilt shift lenses but cannot confirm,) the way the transitions are so abrupt at times, the shot where it flips from night to day on a long shot of the house as if someone has flipped a light switch on and the IMPLICATIONS of that, the scene where peter is sitting on his bed and then is suddenly in class and he’s like. in the same position as if someone has just moved him from one setting to the next, the shot of the cult members outside the house that’s only on screen for like a SPLIT second but it looks like dolls positioned around a very detailed dollhouse, the scene where miss collette is walking to joan’s apartment and the angle makes it look like she’s walking on the ceiling a la exorcist 3 and then later she is literally LITERALLY CRAWLING ON THE CEILING BRO!!! the entirety of the car crash scene and the aftermath and how it was so viscerally upsetting in a way that NO other movie ever has been for me to the point that I was shaking when i left the theatre purely because of how tense I’d been from that point on, the way the trailers somehow give you NO idea of what the story is aside from like one slightly misleading idea and then that scene COMPLETELY flips that on its head and pulls the rug out from under you in a way that makes the rest of the movie feel so Unsafe like Uncharted Territory because it’s completely out of left field but in SUCH a good way because looking back the foreshadowing is SO clear, the scene where annie knocks the paint onto joan's number which prompts her to call her, but her hand doesn’t actually hit the fucking bottle it falls over by itself it falls over by ITSELF bro like they are being manipulated the ENTIRE movie and peter has that conversation in his english class which directly foreshadows that and when they get back from the funeral you literally hear footsteps running and a door slamming right before they walk into the house and they mention a funny smell like nonchalantly all through the movie and there’s all the words around the house but none of it means anything and then suddenly it does it all connects and the last 20 minutes of the movie are just like oh we Really In It Now like it pulls NO punches and there is imagery in that movie that i will never get out of my head! and the SOUNDTRACK i could fucking go on about that forever like it makes me so crazy. i didn’t mean to type this much and this is like a rambly mess but i could fucking write a book about this movie i would kill to just be able to take it apart frame by frame because the implications that they are being controlled the ENTIRE movie by circumstances out of their control and the way that’s reflected in annie’s miniatures and the idea that maybe in a sense it’s taking place in one of her miniatures and the-. god. i literally feel crazed
