Fooduary Day 5: Turtle Candy
Turtle candy was invented in 1918. I was inspired by the exterior branding of the candy box for the dress so I could use some recognizable colors, and I was super sneaky by hiding some turtle candies in her design with the buttons. ;D

The first time I had a turtle candy, I was walking past a small chocolate shop with my family in Los Angeles when I was very young. My memory is filled with the warm wide blue of the summer Los Angeles sky, such a vibrant, vivid cloudless ceiling that seemed to expand untouched into the night. We were walking from the parking lot into a small mall to eat dinner, and my young mind was always lost in a heavy-eyed haze from a combination of jet lag and car sleep. Those were languid days, when your plans were still laid out by parents and you were simply a little actor in a grand play, saying the lines given to you and filling your role when you had to. Yet for some reason, I always remember the turtle chocolates that lingered on my tongue long after they'd been eaten. The indelible combination of pecans, caramel and chocolate has become my favorite even now that I rarely buy special chocolates, perhaps because of this random, lingering memory that I'm sure will take on significance later in my life.
