Kakiniit | Traditional tattoos of the Inuit of the North American Arctic
Making tattoos from scratch was more difficult than I thought it would be (especially when there’s so many small and straight lines!) But I tried my best to make kakiniit + tunniit for TS4. I myself am not Inuit, but having seen so much custom content made for other cultures, I wanted to make these too. There was a random set of facial tattoos I have in game that had a swatch where it was a singular line down the chin, and I remembered it being similar to some native tattooing I’d seen before. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole reading about these in particular. In researching this tradition, I saw how many Inuit women are actively reviving it after years (like well over a century) of missionaries trying to entirely wipe out the practice. It is really cool to learn about the history and meanings behind them, and I hope this can allow someone to have something in their game they may have felt was missing- or someone can learn something new entirely!

No one can take away our power & our identity. I am and will always be proud of them. I am thinking about my grandma and our ancestors, what they are feeling right now, what they are thinking right now. For over a year I have been thinking of getting them and I was ready. There are so many meanings behind them but I am not ready to share that right now. All I can say is that I am connected spiritually with my ancestors, with our goddesses and our people. Tunniit.
Atanarjuat is a movie which was fully produced by Inuit. It is also in Inuktitut language with subtitles. Traditional Inuit tattooing can be seen in it as well, that made me post it here in the first place ;)
