Our #SundayJump Building Bridges Open Mic was FIRE. The restaurant + open mic list were overflowing. Open mic-ers shared about owning their name, finding love, letting love go, solidarity with Orlando, reflecting on history as a person of color, ode to fandom, and more. common ground's Uyen Hoang explained their mission statement through art and Quyen Nguyen-Le's "Love Stinks!" was the first film to be featured in our space. Tuesday Night Project's traci kato-kiriyama and Edren Sumagaysay shared unread letters to each other about life unfolding in the present: real, vulnerable, and courageous. One Mic Collective's DJ Won shared visual artwork and performed live art. Our Mic's Beau Sia, Peter Su, and Teresa Lee challenged one another and Arianna Lady Basco closed it with an uplifting poem punking the fear. The Definitive Soapbox's Mark Maza kept the community HYPED with Resident Host Eddy M. Gana Jr. The cypher was energetic and fun. DJ Won held down the community guidelines through the music. This was one for the hxstory books! Our respective spaces are building bridges for self-expression, social change, and solidarity within our communities. Thank you all for jumping into this process and existing. This is only the beginning. Next Sunday Jump is August 7th at Kapistahan Grill, Historic Filipinotown from 5-7 pm.
