The first week has been so long, yet so short… Our team Hospital Belen has an early start at 7.30am on most days. The first two days at the hospital were spent observing the Outpatient department, and getting to know the process and people. In addition we had a meeting with the Outpatient Department Committee, and two meetings with the Direct of the Hospital. It has been challenging to take in so much information, and to try to decide where to start…
We agreed to concentrate our project on the Outpatient Admissions process, as this is one of the high priority areas for the hospital. Our first goal is to propose improvements to the process to reduce the waiting time for patients to get an appointment. The second, and equally important goal is to enable the staff of the hospital to map and review their processes and implement process improvements.
This week the work starts, so we are already in the process of designing data gathering plans, scheduling interviews with key stake holders, and drafting process maps. By the end of the second week we should have key data gathered and analyzed, and draft documents ready to go on process improvement and management system methodologies. Hard work and long hours ahead, me thinks…
But we did not spend all the time working, there was time for the CSC Peru 3 team to visit Chiclayo including the Museo Tumbas Reales de Sipán and the pyramids of Túcume. Túcume consists of 26 major adobe pyramids built by Lambayeque (AD 1000 to 1375), Chimú (1375 to 1450) and Inca (1450 to 1532) people. The pyramids are surrounding the Cerro Purgatorio hill, and yes, that means Purgatory! It sure felt like purgatory climbing it in the heat!
