COMMANDER J. SHEPARD

SPACER: The only son of two middling Alliance military officers. His father served in the First Contact war when Shep was very young, and was medically discharged due to combat-related disability. His mother was a tactical officer, and their family moved from station to station frequently over the years. INFILTRATOR [SNIPER]: Shepard enlisted in the Alliance military on his 18th birthday. He had never even considered what his life could be as a civilian. After basic and infantry, he began training as a sniper. His marks were exemplary, but his preference for live ammunition over energy-based weaponry left his comrades unsettled by him.

RUTHLESS: "The Butcher of Torfan." The mission briefing was only available to superior officers, but word has a way of getting around.

He tells himself that he would make the same decisions over again.

NOW: J. Shepard is an old man with too many regrets that he buries deep, deep, deep. He is hot-headed, passionate, and mercurial, but quiet and deeply compassionate for the people around him.

(He's a jarhead, but he has a big heart.)
