Collection of Antagonists

All the kind asks I received for the fic ask game and all the artfight profiles I saw lately, made me think about my own OCs too. I realize I accumulated a good dozen just through writing plotfics (which required OCs to move the plot) and other wips, but I almost never draw them. I don't plan on participating in artfight, but still thought it'd be fun to illustrate them for once. Here is a small collection of my antagonist OCs. My OCs tend to be visually a bit plain, I think. I try to make them more or less distinctive in personality but not too weird in appearance.

🎢Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

Depends what is considered "wildest ride" >w< "For as many revolutions" might be wild because I managed to hold on 3 years of planning, writing, leaving it aside, coming back to it, and finally posting those 75k words at last. I even had time to have like a depressive episode in-between lol

Generally, I think my writing process is very normal and uneventful, though. I'm just slow.

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?

I love to make and listen to playlists while planning (and daydreaming) but less when I write, because I get distracted ridiculously easily. Lately, I've been listening to songs for the Odonaru on Shodoshima longfic (i rly need to find a proper title) on repeat! The most helpful ones are these two:

-Uchiagehanabi by DAOKO and Kenshi Yonezu💖

-Tao Sheng Yi Jiu by Mao Ning 💖 (lmao i kno)

For once, I want to write a romance plot first and foremost, so those songs fit :') Tao Sheng Yi Jiu in particular has that lyric that goes "Helpless as I was, I'd already put that share of feelings away, but after many years, realise I've come in front of you again", which is kind of what the fic is about. It's very romantic and sappy, I love that song.

Dinner consists of the eternal nutrition blocks dissolved into soup, accompanied by fruits they’ve collected over the days. As Daigo hands him a cup of tea, Alan breaks the peaceful silence:

“So, when did you come here for the first time?”

“Many years ago, when I was sixteen, to be exact.”

Alan looks to the side, thinking, before finally giving in:

“How long ago, exactly?”

“Oh, you could just ask how old I am,” Daigo winks, and Alan hates that he actually feels embarrassed:

“Can you answer questions like a normal person?” he starts irritatedly, and the Champion laughs:

“It was eight years ago.”

“Eight years ago,” he grumbles. “Alright.”

“So you’re twenty-four,” Manon picks up, slurping in her soup, and Daigo hums before acquiescing:

“That’s right.”

“Alan turned twenty in July,” she notes quite seriously, and Alan silently wonders what that has to do with anything.

In any case, Daigo welcomes the information with a polite smile.

“What happened the first time? Were you already looking for the lost city, then?”

I don't think it's particularly funny dialogue, but it still gets a small laugh out of me just because of the interacting personalities and the "talking at each other but having different goals in the convo", I guess. Alan: Stop being shady and tell us details about your first trip here. Manon: You are four years older than Alan, and this relationship is perfectly appropriate. By the way. Daigo: shameless flirting

🛒What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

I spoke about themes and imagery so I guess what is left is feels and scenes. I don't think I have recurring patterns though... Though I guess in smut scenes, I like power dynamics, biting, tying up or immobilizing people and gazes that are too intense. for no reason at all. of course.

I think my forte is in plotting fics, fic structure, and getting stories/ideas across 👉👈 With plots, delivery is as important as the idea (I actually lost most of my literary terms, sorry if I'm not speaking in professional terms but) There is a build-up phase and an unraveling phase, a climax, an ebbing down, loose ends need to be tied up unless opening them is an intentional choice and if so, the reader needs sufficient indication that it's intentional, otherwise, the feeling might sour...there are tricks and traps for writing plot, most of them intuitive, and if you fall in those traps, readers will feel frustrated (it's like the Knox rules in Umineko) there needs to be themes, there needs to be changing dynamics, ideally there needs to be interaction between the ship dynamics and the overall plot and themes. All of that requires plotting structure, and then tools to get it across. I don't think I'm a spectacular writer when it comes to vocabulary. I often use fairly simple sentence structures and I'm not above using 3-4 "smile" in a chapter. I don't have literary training. but I think I have good intuition for plotting work and am able to tell that story effectively and cohesively. Ultimately, I love letting readers leave with a good story, and that's the feedback I get most, so it makes me happy.

I also get very nice feedback about characterization (multiple people even said that I got Akai right, and God knows I am so tired of Akai) so I think I am good with characterization. >:3c

🛒 What are some common things you incorporate in your fics? Themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.

I think one thing I love writing is characters "having their hands tied" figuratively (and literally). When I write Daigo, I like the conflict between what he wants to do (1) emotionally (possibly more ethical), and (2) rationally (possibly harsher but he has compelling reasons to do it). When it's difficult for him to reconcile the two, it creates internal conflict and he tends to be crueler than he is comfortable with. I tend to like using Alan as foil then. Generally, I feel Alan is the embodiment of what Daigo's emotional side wants, but cannot choose.

And then, a further layer of dichotomy or conflict within Daigo's subconscious, that I tried to explore in "of hubris and the stars" (and would explore in rice!rice!rice!), is that sometimes, what he considers "rational" has an emotional root as well. Devon, his father, his family, where he comes from and what made him... They push him towards rationality and decisions that he considers objectively obligatory. But these things all have an emotional root.

To an extent, I think it's also linked to the idea of nature and nurture.

Another common theme is probably the main ship loving each other, but not understanding each other. I try not to lean into the Miscommunication trope, so it's more about how, despite communication, some things are just so different for each other that they still don't Get It. With Alan and Daigo, one of the recurrent things is that their backgrounds and way of life are so different that they do see in a blur where the other is coming from. But they each feel a sort of contempt for the other's way. And they're both right to an extent.

Daigo finds Alan too naive, unable to survive in a harsher world without being tricked in some way. Meanwhile, Alan thinks Daigo's way is just odious on an ethical level, or that he's egocentric and wielding power in an unfair way. And they're both right about it.

OdoNaru is also in that same category, but more in the traditional "I will die before I can tell you what I feel" way. They're fighting demons they themselves can't name, and until they work those out, I don't think they'll really understand or be able to ask the other what's wrong with them.

1. of hubris and the stars

12 chapters, completed, around 40k words

genre: mystery and adventure

pairing: daiala (incombustibleshipping) in pokeani/tsme

I like it the most in my longfics bc, out of all my fics, it's the one that is the most a love letter to canon lore as it is a love letter to the daiala ship. beyond the plot that i pulled out of my ass, if you love oras/xy and pokeani canon, you will find a lot to chew on. the plot is a prequel to the delta episode, in which daigo, alan & co are led on a journey, triggered by a looming but murky threat about the "end of the world". the more they know, the more the rift opens between alan and daigo and their goals

i also consider it to be a case of "efficient writing" on my part, where 40k told a lot & the words landed effectively, including for emotions. the tone is also what i find to be a balance between funny and serious. Im deeply thankful for the feedback it got

2. for as many revolutions

16 chapters, completed, around 75k words

genre: mystery and adventure

Pairing: daiala in tsme/pokéani

It was a bitch to write this fic. Took me 3 years but im rly happy with the result and it is probably my most "ambitious" fic. The plot is about post-canon daigo trying to get alan out of his depression and ptsd, by taking him and manon on an adventure. things go horribly wrong and now alan and manon are trapped by ghosts of daigo's past

The reason i liked it is probably the character and theme exploration. i got to do a deeper dive on manon on top of the others. Also, i had lots of fun with the OC antagonist and his contrasts with daigo

It's also a fic where i rly invented a lot of Isshu (gen5) lore that is completely pulled out of my ass but 100% canon-compatible and thematically interesting (to me (i love ying and yang))

3. it takes him all at once

6 chapters, completed, around 40k words

Genre: romcom

pairing: daiala

It's a mamma mia-esque AU about lifeguard alan and daigo who is still daigo and is there for resort expansion plans. the reason i like it is that it's just... well-knitted and it might be a case where i rly enjoy my own writing as such. i wrote it at a time where i had an easier job, and you can tell lmao i was wording better bc my head was not as tired

Again had HUGE fun with the "antagonist" OC, who might be one of my fave OCs. In terms of writing, it is probably one of my funniest fics too

4. the sound of wind

17 chapters, completed, around 50k words

genre: mystery, angst

pairing: furukaza from detco

the reason it makes the list is because i think the plot is a good, canon-compliant way of explaining canon loose threads like the itakura software, karasuma and vermouth's role and some other BO questions. The fact that it holds water gives me a kick. also it's the only english longfic (and plotfic!) focused on frkz i think? so having written that gives me a kick

5. the berth

one shot, 1k words

genre: idk

pairing: odonaru from ace attorney

oddball to put on a list of longfics, but. well. it contains a lot of my own emotions and it's a fic where i enjoyed my writing for what it is. I think the words fall naturally into place and tell what i want to convey. It's a simple exploration of apollo as a character and the place that phoenix holds in his life. in my head, it's like an admittance (from the outside) that phoenix needs apollo more than vice versa, but it's told from apollo's pov, apollo who doesn't realise that this is the case
