This started out as a random brainstorming session with @holy-muffins and @nightquills about a modern au with a grumpy Aleksander who works for the city and hates his job but keeps it so he can stop at least some of the gentrification happening. Alina works there too and approves plans for new parks and things to help beautify the city. They don't always agree but they're still good friends and spend their breaks together.
We realized Aleksander was basically Ron Swanson and then @holy-muffins came up with a more solidified prompt that included an impromptu courthouse wedding like Ron and Diane 😃
A snippet:
There was little Aleksander Morozova actually enjoyed about his job. Most of the time, he despised it. More than one person had asked why he didn’t simply quit and do something else. He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought about it.
At length.
But there were two very compelling reasons for him to stay working for the city even when he hated it.
The first was when permit requests would cross his desk. It was his job to approve or deny them. The person who’d had this job before him had approved far too many permit requests that allowed the unchecked gentrification of certain parts of the city.
Aleksander wasn’t about to let that happen while he had the power to do something about it. The moments where he was able to deny those permits were the absolute highlight of his day. He’d gotten a special stamp for the form, and would always personalize the canned denial letter, which was both biting and professional.
Permit days were his favorite days.
