That’s a good point. A lot of people (like me) want names similar to their birth names for comfort and familiarity, but this is a risk in some cases. To avoid this, you can pick a name similar to your birth name that won’t have the same nickname as your birth name, you can ask people not to use that nickname, or you can change your name to something totally different. (If people don’t listen to you when you tell them to stop using the nickname, then it isn’t much different from them deadnaming you. Explain to them why that’s disrespectful, but some people just won’t listen no matter what, unfortunately.)
