There's hope. There is always hope. You can start from wherever you are. No path is forever. You could spend the rest of your life helping people, trying to bring more light to the galaxy, and it would all matter. Those people would still be helped. We could team up, right now, and destroy the Knights of Ren and save this place.

The Rise of Kylo Ren / The Rise of Ben Solo
What do you think it would be like if Ben didn't go to Snoke after the Temple incident? I was reading Rise of Kylo Ren recently and in the fourth issue he says 'Whether it's Luke Skywalker or Snoke, neither one sees me as a person. Just a legacy...just a set of expectations.' And then there's Ren pointing out that he is fighting the Dark Side every step of the way. Makes me wonder what kind of an outcome there would be if Ben walked away from Snoke just as well as he did from Luke.
This is hard to imagine because...well where else could he go?
His family has forced him to train into a lifestyle with fellow Force sensitives where he is cut off from most of their support group but their teacher. His school is blown to smithereens, his teacher has betrayed his trust and one way or another has turned everyone against Ben. The only person who trusted him is powerless in this situation as him( Tai) and he cannot even trust his own father and mother to help him because...well....when was the last time they talked face to face which wasn't curt pleasantries and they are the ones who send him here after calling him a ticking time bomb monster behind his back?
Ben Solo is a lot of things before TROS fiasco but stupid is not one of them. He has no choice but to rely on this guy who promises him that he trusts him and will be there every step of the way. He is a falsely framed criminal now, where could he possibly go and who could he possibly contact with limited resources he has? He has to make sucky choices ( when really, its no choice at all. Abusers make sure of that once they set their sights on a target. Isolation is key. Honestly Ben Solo's fall is so much similar to how Little/finger operated on San/sa's dependence on him in the book, its scary)
This is why this what if is hard to imagine. There are no good options.
