Speaking solely from the fandom perspective, I also try to correct people's misconceptions about Marie Antoinette when I have the opportunity to do so. And I think I can be more effective in this arena than most, because a Robespierrist cannot be accused of allowing an incorrigible affection for royalty to interfere with their objectivity as they dismiss the "Let them eat cake" legends.

Likewise, I appreciate it when "royalists" return the favor. A royalist arguing against the Thermidorian legend has a lot more credibility to it than a Jacobin sympathizer arguing the same. If both sides of the fandom kept guard against calumny in their respective factions there might be much more harmony among them - and, thinking big, perhaps it would one day trickle down to the historians.
