1 king scallop (Pecten maximus) shell pair, which were found attached, but became unattached when the remanants of their previous occupant were removed. Apart from needing emptying and cleaning, it’s a perfect pair, inside and out – no holes or keel worm deposits. Grebe Beach.

1 rayed artemis (Dosinia exoleta) shell pair, attached. Trebah Beach.

3 common periwinkles (Littorina littorea). Grebe and Durgan beaches.

5 netted dog whelks (Tritia reticulata). Grebe and Durgan beaches.

21 flat periwinkles (Littorina obtustata) in a beautiful range of colours. Mostly from Durgan Beach.

1 spotted cowrie (Trivia monacha). Durgan Beach.

2 grooved top shells (Jujubinus striatus). Durgan Beach.

4 grey top shells (Gibbula cineraria). Grebe and Durgan beaches.

3 flat top shells (Gibbula umbilicaulis). Grebe and Durgan beaches.

1 thick top shell (Phorcus lineatus). Durgan Beach.

11 turban top shells (Gibbula magus). Trebah Beach.

2 weathered scallop fragments. Trebah Beach.

17 pieces of sea glass, collected from all three beaches. 

12 surf clam (Spisula solida) halves.

1 hard clam (Mercenaria mercenaria) half – not confident with this id.

2 rayed artemis (Dosinia exoleta) halves.

5 banded venus (Clausinella fasciata) halves.

1 thin tellin (Tellina tenuis) pair.

1 blue rayed limpet (Patella pellucida).

1 striped venus (Chamelea gallina) pair, + 5 halves.

1 rayed trough shell (Mactra stultorum) half.

1 painted top shell (Calliostoma zizyphinum).

1 flat periwinkle (Littorina obtusata).

2 netted dog whelks (Tritia reticulata).

and probably the last weathered shell fragment I’ll collect. I’d already stopped picking these up, however perfect, and only took this one to make a point about omitting this object type from beach hauls from now on.

1 very small auger shell (Turritella communis) (Bittium reticulatum).

2 sting winkles (Ocenebra erinaceus), 1 large, 1 small(er).

137 perfect pieces of sea glass - my favourite by far from this month is the incredibly bright turquoise one on the bottom row.

common cockle (Cerastoderma edule) shell half, about a third of the size of the average adult shell.

flat periwinkle (Littorina obtusata) shell, another white one, much larger this time. 

3 netted dog whelk (Tritia reticulata) shells, half size or smaller than the average adult, the one on the right only 7mm long. 

3 snails of uncertain ID, either young dog whelks (Nucella lapillus), or the same species found in St Ives last month (possibly Lacuna crassior).

3 European, or spotted cowrie (Trivia monacha) shells. 

tube of cemented sand grains and shell fragments created by the sand mason worm (Lanice conchilega).

3 ceramic fragments: 1 of the usual warm grey with cool grey lines material; 1 similar, but with lines closer together; and 1 blue, rounded, possibly the edge of a container.

1 bivalve shell half that I’m unsure about but reckon is either a pullet carpet shell (Venerupis corrugata) or a grooved carpet shell (Ruditapes decussatus).

1 netted dog whelk (Tritia reticulata).

6 pottery fragments:

warm grey with cool grey stripes (again!)

white with a small part of possibly a leaf painted in tiny brown dots

white with forest green design, also possibly leaves

white with dark blue either leaves or catkins, or maybe seaweed?

white with mid-blue design, maybe part of willow pattern

and white with plain sky blue.
