Turritella terebra, October 18, 2024, Vung Tau, Vietnam.
Family: Turritellidae
Genus: Turritella
Class: Gastropoda
Length: 6.5 cms; Width: 1.5 cms; Weight: 7.36 grams; Height: 2 cms.
#054: Magiraft
Seldom seen, this creature is said to only appear to those in dire need of a rest. They float on beautiful pink clouds they create themselves, and as they wander through the sky they leave a trail of it that other creatures can stand on! Many use this as a raft to sail through the skies and take a well deserved break!
Inspired by Turritella and Janthina snails! The latter float through the seas by using a mucus raft! Also inspired by Magicant! from the Earthbound series! ==:)
Beach finds from multiple walks between Penzance and Marazion during February 2020.

Available: fossil snails in matrix. Commonly known as “turritella agate”, although these snails were freshwater. Location from: Wyoming. Age: Eocene. Approx. size 50mm. Only $8!
Gastropods have a very large, muscular foot, a fairly developed head with eyes, mouth, and tentacles, and carry their house around on their back in the form of a shell. Sound familiar? Gastropods are snails! Like today, some snails live on land, and some in the water. These are known as Turritella and they lived towards the end of the Cretaceous, which ended about sixty five million years ago.
Recent fossil finds from a couple walks. Still have not ID'd them but I think they are something in the family Turritellidae. Pretty cool that they respond to UV light but my photo is crap. July 4, 2019
