[We've already dug into the triple-decker, and tomorrow I will die, but I am a symbol of future generations. Asian pork burger up.]
Today we spent some time with our friend Charles Dickens who would certainly have a lot to say if he could about current political events in both the U.S. and the U.K. We are fortunate to have many materials by the great author, including the triple-decker first edition, first issue Oliver Twist; or, the Parish Boy's Progress (1838), complete with requisite ads in the right volumes, the proper half-titles where noted, binding spines not showing imprint info, and having the “fireside” print that was later changed to the “church” print...

Triple-decker plane with a pool: An April Fool’s joke from Emirates?
You may have been stunned while scrolling through your social media feeds this morning and finding that Emirates Airlines revealed plans for a triple-decker jet, complete with a pool, park and games room.
The name of the plane? APR001. If that sounds familiar, it’s because – as many social media users pointed out – the date is April 1, April Fool’s Day and the joke’s on us!

Avon Street
Avon Street runs, one-way, between Central Street and School Street on the south side of Central Hill.
In spite of being exclusively residential, Avon St has bus service. The 85 runs down Avon St on its way to Kendall/MIT.
Running along a hill, Avon St provides some nice views of houses beyond houses.
It also has friendly cats.
And plenty of distinctive architectural features, including this low-rise brick apartment building (a rarity in Somerville)...
... this brick porch with stone inlay ...
... the rarely-seen brick triple-decker ...
... this house in the color scheme of snow cones ...
... and this house with an abundance of sloping roofs, stars, and brackets.

Calvin Street
Calvin Street runs, one-way, from Washington Street to Beacon Street.
It has a nice collection of triple-deckers...
Including these two demonstrating two competing theories of color.
In late July 2013, Calvin Street was the site of a 7-alarm fire that destroyed two buildings and displaced 45 people. As of October 2013, the site of the fire was still being cleared of debris.
A glorious willow tree.
The last time we moved, an apartment in this building (at the corner of Calvin and Washington) kept coming up on craiglist, always with the selling point of in-building laundry. Technically true.
Pretty grotty now, but once upon a time someone spent some time on this cornice.

Cooney Street
Cooney Street runs, one-way, from Beacon Street to Line Street where it deposits you at the back entrance to the Cambridge Hospital.
The view looking towards Beacon Street.
Cooney Street's single block has some great triple-deckers with a classic feature: front-facing porches on every floor.
