23. âThe fastest way to shut me up is to kiss me.âÂ
.
One of the perks of being best friends with the Hughes family was the access to the lakehouse during the summer.
And every summer, you could guarantee one thing for certainâwhere Jack and Trevor went, the other always followed.Â
It was the same every year without a shadow of a doubt. They were always attached to the hip, always pressed up against each other on the couch or sat next to each other on the boat. Jack was always Trevorâs partner in beer pong and Jack always chose Trevor first when they played a friendly tournament of volleyball.Â
Even despite the number of friends in the house, they always shared Jackâs room on the second floor at the end of the corridor. Every single year.Â
You never once thought anyone could come between them, let alone for them to want someone between them.
Let alone for that person to be you.Â
It was somewhere in the third week at the lakehouse when it all happened. The lot of you had decided to have a BBQ, Quinn putting himself in charge of the grill whilst everyone else helped out here and there before you all settled around the fireplace. There was a crate of beers shared amongst you all, someone playing music from a speaker that appeared out of nowhere and Cole and Alex arguing over whether the fire needed more wood or not.Â
Ultimately, Quinn told them both to sit down and stop poking the fire with a large stick.Â
One by one, everyone trinkled back into the house when the tipsiness began to wear off and the exhaustion started to hit. But you were still buzzed and happy and far too awake for your own good. You were content staying out a little longer, finishing the last dregs of your beer before heading back upstairs.Â
You hadnât even realised you had been left alone with Trevor and Jack until they both shuffled closer to you, one on either side and both bright eyed and cheeks flushed.Â
âHas anyone ever told you that you look really pretty in the firelight?â Trevor asked, all smiley and giggly as he tilted his head towards you. âBecause you do. Like, you really do.â
You snorted. âHow drunk are you, Zegras?â
âDrunk enough to know Iâm right,â he answered with a confident nod of his head.
Jack giggled. âHe is right, though.â
You rolled your eyes, telling yourself that your face felt hot because of the fire and not the compliments they were throwing at you. âYouâre both talking out of your asses right now,â you laughed off. âI should have known better than to think you two yappers wouldnât be as talkative when you are drunk.âÂ
âYou know,â Trevor started, flashing you a mischievous smile. âThe fastest way to shut me up is to kiss me.âÂ
Your mouth went dry at his words as you stared at him, a bit helplessly.Â
âItâs true,â Jack spoke up, the warmth of his body settling behind you as he hooked his chin on your shoulder. His breath was warm and ticklish against your cheek as he spoke, as he looked between you and Trevor. âAnd heâs a pretty damn good kisser if I do say so myself.âÂ
Trevor grinned. âThanks, babe.â
âIââ You started but words were difficult to find. âWhat?âÂ
âWow, donât even need to kiss you to shut you up,â Trevor joked before jokingly pouting. âA shame. Itâs kinda all weâve been wanting to do all summer.âÂ
âThatâs also true,â Jack hummed, his nose lightly nudging your cheek. âWeâve just been waiting to get you alone.âÂ
âYouâre both drunk,â you breathed out, fighting the urge to tear your eyes away from Trevorâs heated gaze.Â
âWeâre drunk, not liars,â Trevor retorted. âWe know what we want. We want you.âÂ
You blinked. âBoth of you?âÂ
Trevorâs smile widened. âTwo for the price of one.â
âIâŠI think this is a very weird alcohol-induced dream,â you murmured out, feeling Jack shake with laughter behind you.Â
âWhy donât you kiss him and find out?â Jack mused and you could hear the smirk in his voice.Â
You gulped. âWhat aboutââ
âWe donât kiss and tell, baby,â Trevor assured you, seeming far too relaxed about the whole situation. âItâs just you and us here right now.âÂ
âNo one but us,â Jack hummed. âBut we have one rule.â
âWhatâs that?â
âYou kiss him then you kiss me,â Jack grinned. âCanât be making me jealous, babe.â

So you're telling me they hung out and didn't post till now. Im so chill ab this. And no lake house pics. Im SO CHILL. But also how close they are??? Okay, boyfriends???
Truth now is: Jack misses Trevor like crazy. He didnât realize how much they were spending time together until they literally got separated by hockey. Funny how a passion that brought them together teared them apart.
âFuck.â Jack realizes one day. âI think Iâm in love with him.â

thank you for requesting!đ«¶đœ
.
âHe would love this.âÂ
âHe would not.â
âHe would cherish it!â
âHe would burn it in front of you.âÂ
âWell, thatâs a bit dramatic.âÂ
In hindsight, it wasnât the brightest decision of yours to go shopping with Trevor and Jack so close to Christmas. But the Devils were in town and it was the last game for both teams before the small break and, really, you just wanted to take advantage of the small amount of time you had with both boys in one place.Â
You just forgot what that tended to look like after so many months of being on the other side of the country.Â
âHeâs my brother,â Jack pointed out.Â
âAnd he is my best friend,â Trevor retorted.
âEh,â you murmured out, much to Jackâs delight as he snatched the Ducks mug out of Trevorâs hands and shoved it back onto the shelf.
âQuinn would rather step on the ice with cucumbers on his skates than own any Ducks merch,â Jack insisted, playfully shoving the other boy further into the store.Â
âThat is oddly specific,â Trevor muttered with a frown. âQuinn loves me secretly, youâre just in denial about another Hughes liking me.â
Jack shot him a look. âWhat? One isnât enough?âÂ
Trevor grinned and you could practically see the innuendo forming in his head, the words on the tip of his tongue before you quickly intervened.Â
âPlease donât,â you sighed, trying to nudge them with the trolley you were pushing. âMy dignity can not handle being banned from another store.â
âThat was not my fault,â Trevor argued.
Jack frowned a little. âYou were the one begging for a changing room blowjob.â
Trevor paused before shrugging. âOkay, so it was kind of my fault butââ
âCan we please stay on track?â You interrupted, flashing your boyfriends the best puppy dog eyes you could muster. âWe have a large list of people to buy gifts for and so far, all we have is an array of questionable items Trevor has shoved into the trolley.â
âItâs a surprise, baby,â Trevor grinned. âOne that involves your favourite things, including the two of usââ
âTrev,â Jack groaned, nudging the boy with his elbow as his cheeks flushed pink.Â
âFine, Iâll keep my thoughts to myself until we are home. Now, câmon, I saw these killer shoes that Luke would definitely wear andââÂ
Jack groaned. âI swear if they are also Ducks themedââ

11. âThereâs a blizzard out there!â âItâs barely even flurrying.â
Trevor knows heâs in trouble. Basically because he didnât realize before hands that heâs not a New Jersey weather expert and that he shouldâve known, after all his years in Michigan that winter in the North can be unpredictable. Heâs not exactly in California.
He initially wanted to surprise Jack. They hadnât had time to talk since the All-Star game and he wanted to see him again because he really misses him. And because he has a terrible and undeniable crush on him but thatâs another story.
But his little trip doesnât go as planned when he realizes that heâs basically stuck in Jackâs apartment as he overslept to catch his flight to go back with the team. The Devils played against the Ducks the night before and Jack invited him over last night.
But Trevor being Trevor, he didnât put any alarm to make sure he was going to make it in it.
Instead, he receives a spam of messages of Sony and Jamie telling him how dumbass he is. âFuck.â He curses as he stops going back in fourth in Jackâs apartment. âDo you think I can catch a plane real quick?â
âTrevor, thereâs a blizzard out there!â Jack reminds him, trying to reason him. But itâs Trevor, he doesnât actually think.
âItâs barely even flurrying.â Trevor replies as he opens the curtains to see⊠a blizzard, as Jack tried to tell him.
His best friend approaches him as he puts a hand on his shoulder. âLook, itâs a weather situation. If anything happens to youâŠâ Jack doesnât finish his sentence as heâs anxious.
They always had been ice and fire but they were always completing each other. Trevor is the easy-going chill guy and Jack is the anxious and earth to earth one.
And in front of this storm, Trevor has to resign. âOk, Iâll try to explain how much of an idiot I am to my coach.â
*
The snow is falling and itâs incredibly quiet over at Jackâs apartment. Trevor misses that sometimes. Life in Anaheim is so differently weather-wise. Itâs always sunny, hot and warm. New Jersey on the other hand is very similar to Michigan.
In a way, being there with Jack reminds him of when they were playing together.
âTrevor?â Jack questions him as he hands him a cup of hot chocolate. Heâs still in his pyjamas. After all, thereâs absolutely nothing else to do.
Trevorâs sitting in the couch in front of the patio door of the apartment. Part of him wants this storm to stop and to join his team but another wants to stay in with Jack a little bit more.
He misses him a lot more than he expected. Itâs a part of their job but they were so close together that itâs hard to imagine his life without Jack being constantly in it.
âThanks.â Trevor thanks him as he looks at Jack coming next to him.
âNot what youâre used to see in Anaheim, uh?â
âNot exactly. But living in Michigan thought me a couple of things about the weather, tho.â He laughs. And yet, heâs still in New Jersey. âI miss it sometimes.â
âMichigan? Yeah, me too.â
âNot just that, Jack. I miss you too. We were always together all the time.â Trevor notices that Jack just blushed, drinking his hot chocolate. âIâm serious, bro.â
Jack looks back at him. âYou areâŠ?â
âOf course!â He replies back. âYou have something⊠thereâŠâ He says as he grabs a napkin to wipes out the excess off Jackâs lips. Jack just lets him of course. He doesnât even move or say anything.
Their eyes finally meet and they exchange a long look. no words are exchanged. Itâs like time stops around them. They hadnât seen each other since the All-Star game and it wasnât exactly the time for them.
Trevor doesnât exactly know who does it first but somewhere in between the mix, their lips meet and theyâre literally kissing each other. Jackâs lips are soft and they taste like sugar due to the hot chocolate but thatâs exactly how he imagined it. Â
âI wish you could stay a little longerâŠâ Jack whispers against his lips as they end the kiss slowly.
âYeah, me too. But well, Iâm here now, right?â
âRight. Can IâŠ?â Jack half asks him to kiss him again.
âOf course.â Trevor lets him.
At the end, heâs glad for this horrible blizzard outside.
look, listen: trevor thinks jack is getting married and he interrupts a strangerâs wedding
keywords: trevor zegras is an idiot (literally); crush; boy crush; wedding crasher; speak now (song) taylorâs version; (big) misunderstandings; love confession

To be fair, this is all his own fault. And Trevor knows it.
When Trevor receives the invitation, he doesnât even read it. To be fair, his mind has always worked differently: donât think act. All he can see on the envelop is the name of âJack Hughesâ and a wedding invitation inside. Thatâs all. Nothing else matters because the person he loves right now is about to get married.
He just canât believe what a dumbass he is at this very moment, standing in front a bunch of strangers, in a church and worst, in a wedding he wasnât invited and where he doesnât know a single soul.
Not even the bride herself and even worse, the groom. And even if heâs somehow relief that Jack isnât really getting married, he feels the shame for not having minded his goddamn business and just realizes that he, in fact, ruined the day of someone he doesnât even know.
*
âYou did what?â Jamie barks of laughter when he comes back from his adventure.
In other circumstances, Trevor wouldâve found his own story funny and he wouldâve joined Jamie on his hysterical laugh.
But it turns out that itâs not so funny when youâre the one who lives the whole story.
âYou did not just interrupt a complete stranger wedding, thinking it was Jack.â And his friend continues, trying to catch his breathe in his laughter.
Trevor tries to find something, even the stupidest, to defend himself from this humiliation he just lived. âDo you know how many Jack Hughes there is?â Yep, the stupidest he can even think of.
But Jamie canât help himself but laugh at him harder. Trevor finds the nearest pillow beside him on the couch and he facepalms himself with it. What an idiot. Thatâs not even an excuse, he knows that he shouldâve read the damn invitation first but his mind went straight tot the worst-case scenario.
âDid you even read the invitation, bro?â But Jamie doesnât even have to wait for an answer. âYou didnât! Z, youâre fucking killing me.â
If he could dig his tombstone right, Trevor could 100% do it himself because he never felt so ashamed. And heâs not the sort of shy guy or whatever. Heâs Trevor âthe new NHL sensationâ Zegras. His reputationâs on the line.
And now not only his reputation is on the line, but his feelings for one of his best friends too. âJust stop, please.â Trevor begs him.
âWow, thatâs new, Trevor Zegras begging for something.â Jamie teases him. âYouâre an idiot. But I think Jack would find it very cute.â
âWhat?â
âWhile you went on your little adventure in the wild to ruin a strangerâs wedding, you forgot your phone on the table.â He tells him, pointing at it with his chin. âIt was Jack. I didnât have to sneak because you let it open so it popped every time you received something.â
Trevor goes silence again. For once, he doesnât have to say much for himself.
âNext time, use your brain and read your goddamn mail âtil the end.â Those are Jamieâs last words before he gets up the couch to leave Trevor alone on it. If there was a lesson to learn today in Trevorâs life, it would probably be it.
He takes his phone and he checks on it to see that Jamie was, of course, right and that Jack left him a couple of messages and a voicemail. But this time, he wants to do the things in the right order and go get that letter to check whatever was on it, besides a wedding invitation.
Trevor goes to his room and he pulls back the practically destroyed letter he received. He confirms that itâs really from Jack with his address and all. When he takes out the invitation, he finally realizes that heâs officially an idiot because thatâs not Jack whoâs getting married but Quinn, Jackâs older brother.
Yes, Quinn is getting married, not Jack. It was never Jack. Just when he thinks that this story wouldnât get worst for him.
He then turns the invitation to check if thereâs anything else and his heart skips a heartbeat when he recognizes Jackâs handwriting asking: Would you go with me yes [] or no []
His phone ring before he can think of anything.
Itâs him. Seeing all Jackâs determination to contact him prior to this call, Trevor answers. âHey.â He just breathes, hoping Jack would never feel the nervousness in his voice.
âHey Z.â But it turns out that Jack is also nervous because Trevor knows him too much. âIs it a good time orâŠ?â
âYeah, sorry about that I was⊠Iâll tell you that story later. Go first.â Trevor swallows.
âOh, uh. Ok well⊠Did you get the invitation?â
âYes. I have it nowâŠâ
âLook, Z, Quinn is doing the configuration and the boring stuff and he wants to know if Iâm going with someone⊠and uhâŠâ Anxiety starts kicking in this poor Jack and Trevor hates it. He doesnât like seeing or hearing him so anxious.
âItâs yes.â Trevor cuts him as his heart is beating faster in his chest. âI wouldnât have interrupted a stranger wedding thinking itâs you if it was no.â
âYou⊠wait a minute.â Jack tries to understand. âYou⊠you interrupted a wedding? For me? ForâŠâ
âYeah, âcause Iâm in love you, Jack.â Trevor finally confesses and he hates that he canât do it face to face right now because he wouldâve kissed him. He dreamed of Jackâs lips on his for so long and confessing on the phone is the worst after all he went through today. Even if a weight lifts on his shoulders, he just wishes he could see Jack in person and have a taste of his lips.
âWell⊠Me too, Trevor. For years.â Jack adds. âSo youâre coming. With me.â He repeats in disbelief.
Trevor has the brightest smile on his face and he likes to imagine that Jack is probably blushing and smiling at the same time, as he knows him. âYes. With you. You and me.â
