I’m often asked what I use to repaint my dolls, so I thought while I’m still working on tax stuff, I’d share. . . . To remove the factory face paint I always use 100% acetone. Don’t use nail polish remover, it will make more of a mess and cause so much frustration. I buy mine from the hardware store. . . Sealer I use is Mr Hobby, Mr Super Clear Flat UV. Personally, I don’t cheap out on the sealer because this one works wonderfully. Again, less stress. But make sure you use it in a well ventilated area or better yet, outside. DO NOT INHALE IT!! Use a protective mask! . . . I love using Derwent Watercolour pencils. The leads are a little softer and rich in pigments so the draw on to the face really nicely. As there is a limited range of colours I also use Derwent Inktense pencils and Faber Castel Watercolour pencils. For shading and eyeshadows I use Schminke Soft pastels. I love their pigments and they apply so smooth. I also use a variety of brushes for the application. For any mistakes I use a kneadable eraser and also just water. When the repaint is complete I seal with three layers of MSC and I use Liquitex gloss for the eyes and lips to bring the dolls to life. It really does make a difference. . . . Every doll artist has their own favourite materials they use and their own techniques. This is what I like to use and they work for me. I strongly recommend if you’re interested in customizing you do your own research into what works best for you. . .
