So far my birthday has been ok (though my dad is cooking steak rn, he found some Texas raised wagyu beef? So that will be an experience to try for the first time... I don't think he intended to make it FOR my birthday specifically but he's serious about his steaks and saw it and decided to splurge on it, I'll report back if it tastes great or what) but I read some pretty good fic and watched some new eps of my shows.
The spones event seems to be doing good so far! I've seen at least a few works and I hope it continues and I can't wait to share it.

YES. This is a great look into how Mirror, Mirror reflects (haha) on Kirk.
BUT ALSO? There’s another layer to what makes a person good or bad in Mirror, Mirror, because we also have Spock.
Both Spock and Mirror Spock have a strong compass based in logic and a strong attachment to the chain of command. However, Spock in the regular universe has a Captain in Kirk who would not order him to do something immoral, a friend in McCoy who can openly challenge his beliefs, and a crew that may question him at first, but who come to care about him. Meanwhile, Mirror Spock has a Captain who consistently orders him to do immoral things, a version of McCoy who probably can’t question him without it being a danger to the very strict hierarchy, and a crew who will never trust him or care about him.
The circumstances of the mirror universe make the same Spock, who most viewers would think of as an extremely good person, into a collaborator who is just as guilty as Mirror Kirk. But he very clearly ISN’T inherently evil or even the opposite of regular Spock, because when he sees things through McCoy’s POV with the mindmeld and then Kirk helps him see a moral stance he could take to improve things, he CHANGES.
The idea that Mirror Spock is just Spock with a goatee is FUCKING RIDICULOUS and I want to FIGHT ABOUT IT. Mirror, Mirror has so much going on, and DS9 built on that further. Like, please, Bryan Fuller. Watch the dang show.
So I was cleaning my apartment and put away a jar of something called “Northwoods Spice,” which my brain immediately misread as “Fireinmywoods Spice.” Which led me to ponder: what *would* be in Fireinmywoods Spice? Writing-related or not.

fireinmywoods spice (reality blend): lavender, rooibos tea, dry erase marker extract, y’all, post-it note residue, makrut lime leaf, resting asshole face, essence of cool gay aunt, cayenne.
