Defying gravity

To this day I sometimes look at a tree and think, “That would be a good climber.”

Climbing trees was just something kids of my generation did. We knew, and exploited, all the best prospects in our neighborhoods.

I once broke an arm falling from a tree in a woodlot near my house. Nobody seemed shocked. Nobody told me I shouldn’t climb trees. Kids of that generation climbed trees and now and then they fell; that was life in the 1950s.
