Obtained from a goodwill, I was in a Jim Henson deep dive when I decided to pick this up and onto the funk/soul section of my shelf, despite it clearly belonging in disco which I'm questioning my past self over. According to Discogs I've owned this since June 6th of 2025.
I know little about the exacts when it comes to grading, but the Sleeve has def seen some better days. Worn through on the edges, corners especially, and many stress cracks snaking up the sleeve. The inside of the gatefold is fairing better, but the wear of the outside has made its way through the layers. I didn't put an inner sleeve on the vinyl itself after purchase, another thing I'm questioning my past self for, though maybe it's because the B side has scratches that I'm fairly sure are more than just surface ones. Won't know for sure until I play it though.
I was going to make comments about each track, and I'll try to do that for future albums, but was quickly reminded that this is a novelty children's album. I was dreading someone coming in while listening to this and having to explain myself, but also got enjoyment out of imagining the likes of Frank Oz, Yvonne Lewis, and Jim Henson recording this album with as close to straight faces as they could manage. The disco influences don't really come in til track 3, The Happiest Street In The World, but also I'm a white boy so who am I to say what Disco is. Disco Frog, the first track on side B, was the first track that I think I would genuinely listen to outside of the album
Luckily Side A played through great, after a few pops in track one I'm blaming on static. Side B surprised me in it's playback quality despite the perceived scratches. It does have pops at the beginning of the final track and minor ones throughout.
This isn't an album I ever see myself playing again, not without the influence of a small child being nearby, but I also don't think it'll leave my collection any time soon. It could even be a display piece at some point with how bright and recognizable the gatefold interior art is. The thing keeping me from parting with it the most though is the fact Jim and Frank and the rest of the OG Sesame Street crew are the ones credited and voicing their respective characters.
