Transocean is 30% responsible for the BP oil spill (or Deepwater Horizon spill) in 2010 where an explosion discharged the equivalent of 4.9 MILLION barrels of oil. it took 5 months to seal the leak and it's still not sure if it's actually sealed. it's one of the large environmental disasters to date in the WORLD
all major data stops in 2013 despite 4.9 million pounds of oil material was pulled from the waters of louisiana and tar was still being found daily on the beaches of florida and alabama
at the time animal deaths were thought to include:
82,000 birds from 102 species
6200 sea turtles
25,900 marine animals
absolutely no determination on the over 500 species of fish in the area
dispersant and PAHs from oil are believed to have caused mutations, including 50% of shrimp caught around the region in 2012 being found lacking eyes and eye sockets
1 million total birds were expected to have died in the time following. not only their health was impacted but also their living environment
88% of stillborn dolphins in the region had underdeveloped lungs, which is only present in stillborn dolphins about 15% of the time
