#translation question

First of all, thank you for this! I'd like to check two Japanese lines in particular: they're both victory quotes from Setsu. One is from when you win with them as both Human, it’s their second quote, and they must like you. The line is "But, [player]… You've gotten a lot better at handling yourself in discussion. I just hope I don't hold you back, [player]. Hehe, just joking. Huh? That… wasn't funny? Uh, sorry… I'll try harder. ".

The second one is when you win with them with a perfect victory as Gnosia, and they say this when they speak second. "I think you're even more cut out for this than I am, [player]. I guess you're just meant to be Gnosia. And I'm not being sarcastic, OK?! Don't misunderstand!"

They both sound a bit awkward (especially the second one), so I wonder how the originals are.

A lot of Setsu's lines seem to be translated pretty awkward tbh, like them going "Ah, food..." (originally あ、ああ。ごはん……) when Gina says what she was eating.

But anyway, here's the first one:

Japanese: だけど{0}。話し合いでの振る舞いも、ずいぶん上達したんだね

English: But, {0}… You've gotten a lot better at handling yourself in discussion.

Chinese: 不过{0}。\n这种议论你也越来越得心应手了啊

Japanese: 私が{0}の足手まといにならないといいけど。ふふっ、冗談だよ……って

English: I just hope I don't hold you back, {0}. Hehe, just joking.

Google thinks this means "But {0}, your behavior during discussions has improved a lot. I hope I'm not a burden to you. Hehe, I was just kidding… What? You're not joking? Ugh… I'll do my best."

And the second one:

Japanese: きっと{0}は、私よりも向いているんだろうな。グノーシア汚染者の才能があるんだ……って

English: I think you're even more cut out for this than I am, {0}. I guess you're just meant to be Gnosia.

And Google thinks this means "I'm sure {0} is better suited than me. He has the talent to be a Gnosia polluter… No, I'm not being sarcastic or anything! Don't take it the wrong way, okay?"

So the name 'Yorishima' isn't a surname from real life - there's a tendency to create names (especially surnames - first names, not so much) in anime and manga by mashing kanji together, for a couple of reasons. Other than the concern of accidentally creating a name that is the same as someone else and 'causing them inconvenience' as a result, it's quite popular to create names that describe the character's personality, looks or connection to a protagonist. So in this case, the readings for the kanji used in Yorishima's name are real (依 'yori' - rely on, and 島 'shima' - island) and give a combined meaning of "island that can be relied upon" (cause he is quite a solitary character, somewhat like an island!). It's Yorishima's 'real name' in NatsuYuu (so not a pseudonym), but it's not a Japanese name someone in real life will have 🙂

but Wikipedia says they are:

It’s a pretty big difference, and as it stands (being a mono-linguistic fool) I’m not sure which one is more in line with the original Chinese...I’m well aware that while the Yu version is still held up as the best English version of Journey to the West, translation errors, translator decisions, and the differences between languages means that any translation of one work to another language often results in pretty big disparities between the original and the translation (hello Moses and his horns/rays of light from the Bible lol). And on the other hand, Wikipedia does have plentiful errors and should be taken with a grain of salt...

So I found out that “great booby” is actually “immense niais” in the original French, but I would like to find out what is the original French for Erik’s phrase for Raoul - “little chap”. Just give it to me or point me towards a free online French version si vous plait.

"……ふたりとも行っちった"

English translates this as "Um… they're both, like, so weird…?", but Google tells me it's "...They both left."

There's also the Chinese version, ""……两个人都离开了", which Google Translate says is "...both of them left".

Is it right? Or is it lying to me? I need to know this for the SQ & Yuriko Key Bonds page. And I guess SQ & Jonas but I've not worked on moments for that one.

Okay, it's been a few days, so here's my question. I've heard, through a random YouTube comment, that apparently Remnan's talk of his backstory during Remnan 4 was toned down/not fully accurate in English. Idk if that's true though, and I can't find the comment again.

So, here we have the line during the start of Terminal Of Dreams where Yuriko tells Stella to leave, Stella asks what she's talking about, and Yuriko replies:

Japanese: お前はしょせん操り人形に過ぎません。ふ、まさか気付かれないとでも？

English: You are nothing more than a marionette. Hmph, don't tell me you were not aware…?

Chinese: 你只不过是个提线木偶。呵，你以为我没有发现吗？

According to Google, the Chinese one translates to "You're just a puppet. Oh, do you think I didn't notice?" or "You're just a puppet. Oh, you think I didn't see that?"

The Japanese one it says means either "You are nothing more than a puppet. Surely you wouldn't notice?", which makes little sense, or "You are nothing more than a puppet. Huh, you think they won't notice?"
