Gabriel blushed and squeezed his hand before dropping it as they entered the room. He had high hopes for this relationship, but he knew how a lot of the students felt about him in general and didnât want to have more for them to hold over him.

Sam went to his own spot and he watched Gabriel go to his own seat. Heâs had a crush on Gabriel for a long time and hoped that this relationship would work. The younger kept stealing glances at Gabriel and smirked.
Gabriel tried his best to pay attention to the teacher and take notes since he struggled in math. But every time he happened to glance over at Sam, he smiled. He blushed when he noticed the other looking at him too before quickly turning back to his notes. Gabriel had kept his feelings buried for so long, worried that Sam might not want anything more than just friendship since Gabriel was transgender. Though he wasnât out to many people in high school, Gabriel was convinced that no one really accepted him for who he was.

Summary:
Sam Winchester keeps managing to do impossible things.
Of all the ways Sam thought they would stop the Apocalypse, a threesome with the devil and his trickster(-pagan-angel-whatever label Gabriel wanted these days) brother wasnât high on the list. Not on the list at all, which was a feat, considering it had been a short list consisting of âKill Lucifer (somehow)â and âKill Michael (somehow.)â
It had taken a fatal stabbing. Sam could have done without that part. Heâs full up on people sacrificing themselves for him, and he didnât need Gabriel adding himself to the pile. Dean might have asked for that, (and nowadays, the memory of that sacrifice was what pulled Dean onto the side of accepting Samâs new... partners) but Sam didnât. He hadnât even liked Gabriel that much back then, but he preferred him as a potential ally and thorn in their side than as a dead man.
Said fatal stabbing, and two weeks of radio silence on Luciferâs end of the Apocalypse, and then one extremely distraught and half out of his mind from grief archangel invading Samâs dreams to ask him for help in undoing what he had done. If Lucifer had seemed efficient in directing the end of the world, then that was nothing compared to trying to resurrect his brother. He brought Sam everything he asked for, every book and spell ingredient and even offered his own grace to bring Gabriel back. Sam could have taken advantage of him. He didnât. At the time, he didnât know if that was the right choice.
Now, squished between two archangels on a bed that was definitely big enough to give them space to spread out, he knew it had been.
It hadnât been easy. Not the resurrection or what came after, nursing Gabriel back to health on Samâs part or earning his forgiveness on Luciferâs. There was still a lot more to do to keep the world intact. Gabriel seemed confident that convincing Raphael to their side was the right way to go, that three archangels against Michael might make their brother think twice about what he was doing, especially with Lucifer less and less inclined towards destroying everything with each passing day.
(Dean was not right when he joked that Lucifer getting laid was the secret to saving the world.
But he wasnât exactly wrong, either.)
Gabriel snorts in his sleep and kicks lightly, disturbing the covers. Lucifer curls closer into Sam, hand sleepily stroking Gabrielâs waist where he laid on Samâs other side. Neither of them need sleep, but Gabriel had developed the habit a long time ago and Lucifer was curious enough to give it a try. Sam reaps the benefits by being the nexus of their cuddle pile every night they join him in bed, Gabriel on his left radiating heat and Lucifer stealing it all on his right.
Samâs got lazy morning arousal curling in his gut, teased out by the way Luciferâs squirming against him to steal even more of Samâs warmth. His leg slides innocuously between Samâs thighs, but thereâs enough sense memory there that Sam shivers and turns his head to press a kiss to Luciferâs temple. Theyâd done that at some point last night, rutted against each other until they both came. He could remember the way Lucifer tensed up as it happened, still caught off-guard by his own orgasms, and that expression being what tipped Sam over the edge as well. He could remember Gabriel pushing them apart afterwards and licking the mess clean (though, really, only making it worse.) Lucifer twitching and gasping from overstimulation as Gabriel licked over his folds was a sight Sam was never going to forget.
Lucifer is waking up. He grumbles unhappily against Samâs shoulder at this turn of affairs. When Sam runs his fingers through his hair, that seems to ease him a little, turning the grumble into a pleased sigh. âGood morning,â Sam greets.
âIf you say so.â Lucifer doesnât open his eyes, like the longer he can pretend heâs still sleeping, the longer he can convince Sam to stay in bed with him. Samâs starting to be convinced that pride isnât actually his greatest sin at all, but sloth.Â
Itâs hardly a sin if itâs cute, though, and Lucifer, grouchy and half-asleep, was definitely cute. Sam wonât dare say that out loud (or think it too hard, because heâs still not clear on how much of his thoughts the archangels can pick up on.)
âFeeling a little left out over here,â Gabriel says, and for good measure, he nips at Samâs shoulder blade. Thatâs what Sam gets for turning his back on a trickster. He rolls over.Â
For about ten seconds, Sam gets to enjoy Lucifer snuggling into one side and Gabriel sitting up on the other one, smiling down at him.Â
And then Gabrielâs face falls so fast, Samâs fight or flight kicks in. Gabrielâs head jerks towards Lucifer and he all but hisses out, âYouâve got to be kidding me.â
Lucifer doesnât react. Samâs not sure he knows Gabriel was speaking to him.Â
âUm,â Sam begins.
âYouâre older!â Gabriel snaps, which is when Lucifer finally opens his eyes and squints up at him. âHow am I more careful than you?â
âWhat are you talking about?â Lucifer asks. He yawns.
âIâd also like to know,â Sam adds. He doesnât often get treated like a third wheel, but the few times he has been, itâs been just like this, confusing and full of accusations he doesnât understand but does get are meant to hurt more than prove any real point. Heâd at least like to know what set Gabriel off.
âYouâre pregnant,â Gabriel says.
Sam's brain refuses to process that.
"What?" he says, more to drown out the buzzing shock that's taken up residence in his head than ask an actual question. It gets ignored either way.
"At least you've got the decency to carry it yourself and not make some poor human"âSam's brain comes online long enough to register that he's the poor human in that description, but it shuts down again before he can come up with a comebackâ"deal with it, but... Don't you know how to use protection?" Sam looks over at Lucifer, hoping that he's going to reveal that this is all some elaborate prank. If it is, Sam will cheer because it means Gabriel and Lucifer are close enough to gang up on him. Instead, Lucifer looks like he's also shut down.
"We don't use condoms," he says, like he's unsure if that's the answer Gabriel wants. Gabriel should already know that, since he's the only one whose vessel sometimes has a dick to put them on.
"I'm talking about a higher power interfering. Your grace's built-in antivirus for nephilim. Should have kept your angel eggs from being fertilized, if you were paying any attention at all."
"You lay eggs?" Sam's voice sounds precariously high-pitched. Gabriel looks at him like he's an idiot.
"The state of sex-ed in America... No, we don't lay eggs, Sam. You knocked Lucifer up. With a baby. Live birth. You're a mammal; you've got personal experience."
"That's not possible."
"You fucked him, didn't you?"
"My dick is made of plastic!" The offending object in question is probably strewn on the floor somewhere.
"And even your strap game isn't that good." Gabriel drawls. He still sounds annoyed, but his voice is lowering again. "It doesn't matter. You had sex. Sex makes babies." He turns his gaze back on Lucifer. "The problem is that it shouldn't have happened. He knows how to prevent it."
"Gabriel," Lucifer says, very quietly, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Instinctively, Sam reaches for him. Lucifer sounds shaken, and Sam can count the times he's heard that note in his voice on one hand, most of them occurring right after Gabriel's temporary death. On his other side, when Sam turns his head to check, Gabriel's stopped scowling in frustration at Lucifer. He looks confused now, his eyes darting over his brother.
"We can get humans pregnant. And you're aware of that, right?" Lucifer doesn't answer. "Right?" Lucifer still doesn't answer. Gabriel exhales in one quick puff. "And particularly stubborn ones can get us pregnant."
"But he doesn't have the parts for that," Sam interrupts.
"Nick had a child,â Lucifer says as he sits up. The sheets slide off him. Sam looks down at the scar he'd assumed was from a hysterectomy. He hadn't even considered that it could be from a c-section instead.
"And even if he didn't, his grace would make it work," Gabriel finishes.
"How-"
"Don't ask questions you don't want answers to, Sam." Sam has enough self-preservation instincts to shut his mouth but not to keep it shut for very long.
âHow do you know about this?â
âExperience.âÂ
"You had a kid?"
"I've had a few kids," Gabriel says, bluntly, in the way that means, I don't want to talk about it, and if you push me, I will make your life a living hell of ten thousand tiny annoyances. You will get shocked every time you take your clothes out of the dryer for the rest of time, and youâll always know it was because of this.
So, Sam turns back to Lucifer. The facts of this are beginning to settle in. Lucifer. Pregnancy. Lucifer, pregnant, with Samâs kid. Human kid? Angel kid? Something in between?Â
Lucifer doesnât look very good.Â
âHey,â Sam says, trying to keep his own voice as soothing as he can. He rests a hand on Luciferâs shoulder. The muscle underneath his fingers is stiff as steel, and absently, Sam works his thumb against Luciferâs back. âYou arenât trapped like this. We can figure out a way to stop it, and weâll be more careful next time to keep it from happening again.â Lucifer turns to look at him, confused.
âWhat?âÂ
âI could do it,â Gabriel offers. âI have before. Announced a few pregnancies, terminated others, all in a dayâs work.âÂ
If Sam had to describe the expression on Luciferâs face⊠he might call it heartbroken.Â
âYou donât want a child with me,â he says, and itâs not a question but a statement of fact, so sure of his own grasp of the situation, and as ever with Lucifer, so completely wrong about whatâs actually causing strife between the three of them.
Samâs never considered having a kid before. With Jess, heâd briefly tossed around the idea of adopting, far in the future, but having his own? Now? With Lucifer and Gabriel? It had to be one of his most batshit ideas, but at the same time⊠Who else would any of child of his be safer with?Â
And itâs watching Lucifer that convinces him. Lucifer hasnât had the chance to be anything to the world but death and destruction in so long, and here he is with life blooming inside him.Â
âOf course we-â Sam pauses. His mind is made up, but he wonât speak for Gabriel, not without knowing heâs behind this all the way. This is a far bigger commitment than occasional threesomes.Â
Samâs not sure if he loves Gabriel the way he loves Lucifer (and he knows he doesnât love him the way Lucifer does, but itâs a little unfair to compare his feelings to the intense devotion of an archangel), but he could. More importantly, would he trust him with his child?
Heâs not that surprised the answer is yes.
Unreadable emotions flicker fast behind Gabrielâs eyes, and then, finally, he nods.Â
âWe do,â he says. He crawls over Sam and into Luciferâs lap to kiss the shock away. âDonât make that face. Youâre the one babytrapping us.âÂ
âIt wasnât intentional,â Lucifer protests, and Gabriel steals another kiss to shut him up.Â
Theyâre actually going to do this, Sam realizes. Something giddy bubbles up in his chest. He got Lucifer pregnant, and that thought isnât laced with panic or disbelief but euphoric glee.Â
âNow youâre both making stupid faces,â Gabriel says, and Sam canât make himself stop grinning. He placates Gabriel by hiding his face in the crook of Luciferâs neck, pressing kisses up to his jaw. Lucifer leans into him, his arms wrapped around Gabriel, content between them.
Samâs content, too, right up until he remembers that heâs going to have to explain himself to Dean.

Summary:
Lucifer is sick, and Gabriel is so wrapped up in that that she doesn't see the fever creeping up on her until it's too late. It's a good thing Raphael knows what they're doing, even without grace to take care of their siblings.
Notes:
For day 2's prompt: thermometer
Lucifer always takes a while to show up in the mornings. There hasnât yet been a morning he doesnât show his face, even if itâs only for a few minutes that end with whatever new fight with Michael he can pick and him stalking off to cool down again. Thereâs a sort of rhythm here that Gabrielâs tentatively falling into. She wakes up, usually from Fen trying to sit on her head, and goes to eat breakfast. Detours halfway there to the bathroom because she gets bodily signals loud and clear, a rarity in the apartment and really annoying when they clash between hungry-eat something-eat a bagel-eat twenty bagels and hey, itâs me, your bladder, and if you donât go piss right now, Iâm making it everyoneâs problem.
And once thatâs taken care of, sheâll always find Raphael already awake. Their eyes track her the minute she steps into the room. Sometimes Michaelâs also there, which means he didnât actually sleep that night, and sometimes heâs not, which means Gabriel can glance over and see him passed out on the couch, sleeping like he read how to in a manual. Fen needs feeding before Gabriel does, no matter how much her stomach is growling.
(âWhy do you even keep a dog?â Michael asked, in that tone he used when he was trying to hide how judgmental he was being. But not trying that hard.
âIâm a good mom,â Gabriel snapped. Michael just blinked at him and didnât ask any more questions.)
And then itâs a waiting game as Gabriel makes breakfast, and Raphael doesnât eat it, and Michael either snoozes on or paces around the kitchen with nothing to do. It doesnât matter how much he stares at the utensils cabinet, Gabriel is not letting him spend a day reorganizing the kitchen. Everything, or what little there is, is right where Gabriel wants it.
Luciferâs record for not coming up is about two hours and seventeen minutes. Not that Gabriel is counting.
Itâs been three. The sun is well over the horizon. Gabriel might have had too much coffee. Her fingers are all jittery over this weekâs bills, and for once, it isnât because they might not be able to pay them. (Most of Gabrielâs money is... not gone. Itâs definitely still floating around out there, locked up tight, but she canât get at it. She got access to one or two accounts, plus what Lucifer could pull with some vessel identity fraud. Michael couldnât do much on that front, and Raphael... Whatever they could have contributed was all tangled up in the account their vessel shared with her husband, and it had been unanimously agreed that they not touch that situation.
Someone out there is waiting for Raphael- for the face Raphael wears to come home.
Yeah. Not with a ten-foot pole.)
Gabriel glances over at the key bowl. The minivan key is laying there, easily picked out from the rest because of the metal yellow smiley face attached to it. A little keepsake from the 70s, older than the minivan it now heralded but not the bowl it lived in. If itâs there, Lucifer canât have gone anywhere. The van is unlocked for him to sleep in, but he doesnât know how to hotwire a car. He didnât even know how to load a dishwasher.
Gabriel looks back at Michael and Raphael. Neither of them are making any move to go find out what the hold up is. They donât even look worried that Lucifer isnât here.
Thereâs a very cruel part of Gabriel that goes of course they donât. Theyâre used to it.
They wouldnât notice if you took off either.
Itâs a lie and an obvious one. Raphaelâs first panic attack happened after Gabriel went to the grocery store without leaving a note. Gabriel presses her fingers into where Raphael had bruised her arm by holding on too tight. The ache is gone. She misses it, not for the pain, but the easy reminder. Maybe it doesnât occur to Raphael and Michael the way it does Gabriel. That Lucifer can leave. For centuries, theyâve all known exactly where he was, even if he was out of reach. Locked up in his tower, singing to the demons that pass by, until Sam Winchester called out for Lucifer to let down his hair. (Or threw his own up? It was long enough.) Luciferâs got both feet on the ground now, and boots made for walking, and why the hell does he stick around?
Itâs not even his apartment. Which is the only reason Gabriel stays.
She rubs the unbruised spot on her arm. âIâm going to go fetch Lucifer,â she announces.
Gabriel throws on a shirt and pants. Sheâs 80% sure theyâre both hers. She takes the stairs. The elevator might be mandated by law, but apparently its care and keeping isnât as strongly regulated. On a good day, six floors up and down isnât a problem (and Gabriel doesnât think about bad days. If she canât see them, they canât see her.) Thereâs no one around, but sheâd slide down the banister the last few flights even if there was. Her butt stings from a bump in the rail. The brief rush is worth it. The parking under the building is dark and damp, all enclosed in rusted bars that the daylight hardly peeks through and stone. Gabriel shivers when she steps out. Her foot goes right into a puddle left from last nightâs rainstorm, and she jumps.
âFuck!â That makes her feel better. Shoes! She forgot about shoes again. She doesnât want to go all the way back up to get them. She pays more attention to where sheâs walking instead, sidestepping puddles and loose rocks and weird stains on the floor, leaving one wet footprint in the wake of her stride. Thankfully, the minivan is parked close to the stairs. She braces herself, grabs the backdoor, and yanks it up, stepping out of the way so that the right corner of the car is between her and Lucifer. âRise and shine, Luci!â Sheâs expecting a snarl and at least one arm or leg flailing out at her. Instead, Lucifer grunts and tugs his blanket further around himself.
âGo away,â he says into one of his... four pillows, now. One of those is probably the one Michael said had gone missing.
âItâs a beautiful day, and youâre going to waste it sleeping in?â Above them, the sky grumbles its disagreement and reminds them all that it can always shit out another few gallons on their roofs. Lucifer makes a very similar noise as he tries to curl away from Gabriel. Gabriel yanks on his blanket. It shouldnât give. It does. Gabriel drops it in surprise, and it flutters to the ground and gets wet. She grimaces. Lucifer lets out a heavy, frustrated breath, but he doesnât do anything. âSeriously, get up,â Gabriel says. âWhatâs wrong with you?â
Lucifer rolls over and glares blearily at the ceiling of the minivan. He looks like shit.
âIâm dying,â he says.
Gabrielâs heart stops for a moment. Then, she leans over and puts her palm against his forehead.
âYou have a fever,â she tells him. Lucifer nods.
âIâm dying.â
âShut up.â She needs him to stop saying that. Even if heâs just being dramatic, thereâs a uncomfortable twist in her gut. She grabs him to haul him up, and Lucifer makes his first attempt at resistance. He pushes back against Gabriel, weakly, with hands that are far too warm wherever they settle on Gabrielâs skin. Heâs exactly as heavy as he looks, but Gabriel can match that with stubbornness. She gets Lucifer on his feet, both of them stepping on the blanket resting in the dirty water, making it worse. âHang on.â Gabriel makes sure heâs mostly steady and turns to close the backdoor of the minivan, vowing to come back for their stolen pillows later. As the door clicks closed, Lucifer makes an awful sound, and before Gabriel can fully turn around, he doubles over and starts retching.
This blanket isnât going to be salvageable.
When Luciferâs finished throwing up, (and Gabrielâs finished running her hand up and down his back, muttering, "Okay, fuck, youâre fine, youâre gonna be fine," without thinking about it) she pulls him back up. Heâs leaning even more weight on her. Gabriel helps him across empty parking spaces to where the elevator is and hopes itâs at least functional today. She hits the button â It doesnât light up, so she has no idea if the elevator is actually coming. â and waits. Lucifer doesnât throw up again, if he has anything left in him. Did he eat dinner last night? Gabriel canât remember.
The elevator comes. For one brief moment, Gabriel considers thanking their Father for that small mercy before Lucifer wobbles and nearly falls over and the urge disappears completely. Mercy would be Lucifer not having an immune system to compromise. Mercy would be Gabriel not having to worry about him, not like this. Fuck thanking Him for an elevator, especially one that doesnât work on days when Gabrielâs bones all feel misaligned and her skin doesnât fit right.
They stand side by side as the elevator rattles up the six floors towards their apartment. Lucifer can lean back against the wall rather than against Gabriel, tilting his head to the side to press his temple to cool glass. The walls of the elevator are mirrored on both sides, which Gabriel has heard other residents complain about for making them nauseous. She likes it. It makes the enclosed space seem expansive. Lucifer would appreciate it, too, if he wasnât about to pass out.
âJust a little further,â Gabriel says, and sheâs not sure which of them sheâs reassuring. Lucifer manages it, barely.
âWelcome-â Raphaelâs voice calls, distracted, but sharp with attention when they see Gabriel dragging Lucifer through the door. âWhat happened?â
âHeâs sick. Itâs not serious.â Lucifer does everything he can to prove Gabriel wrong by nearly falling over. âShit!â Gabriel balances him at the last second. Luciferâs eyes blink open, unfocused. Raphael stands, but they donât move, only watching as Gabriel walks Lucifer over to the couch and drops him. Lucifer whimpers. Itâs a horrible sound that Gabriel feels wrong hearing. She turns her head. Raphael is digging out the first aid kit. âRaphael, heâs being dramatic. Heâll be back on his feet tomorrow. Itâs a cold.â Raphael does not believe her, carefully digging out supplies and laying them across the kitchen counter. Gabriel rolls her eyes. She can hear them filling something with water as she turns back to their brother.
Luciferâs going to be fine. He rolls over and tries to hide his eyes from the lights, burying his face into the couch cushions. Gabrielâs stomach feels twisted up, and she jumps when Fen comes padding over and presses his cold nose to her leg. Lucifer flinches when Fen barks. Gabriel leans down and scoops him up, earning herself half a dozen doggy kisses.
âMove,â Raphael tells her brusquely. Gabriel does without thinking. Thousands of years, and she still knows when Raphaelâs tone means life or death.
Theyâre overreacting, too. Luciferâs-
Lucifer is easily rolled over onto his back again. He covers his eyes.
âWhat are-â Gabriel hears Michaelâs voice from behind him, and she glances back over her shoulder.
âHit the switch,â she says. Michael frowns, but he does. The window near the couch keeps the room lit, but Lucifer seems to relax. Raphael rests their hand over his forehead where Gabriel had earlier.
âOpen your mouth,â they order Lucifer. Lucifer blinks at them and doesnât. Undeterred, Raphael opens it for him, pinching his lips apart and pushing the tip of the thermometer in. They wiggle it under his tongue, made more difficult by Lucifer grimacing at the taste of the metallic tip and trying to push it away. Raphael slides their hand down to his jaw and holds his mouth closed, eyes fixed on the thermometer. Gabriel lets out a breath she didnât know she was holding as the number stops on 100.1 degrees.
âI told you, heâs being dramatic. Thatâs barely a fever.â Michael steps up behind Raphael, his hand folding over their shoulder as he peers down at Lucifer. Raphael pulls the thermometer from his mouth, thumb gently petting along his jaw before they stop touching him.
âIâm dying,â Lucifer mumbles, again. Michaelâs alarmed expression is only soothed by Raphael shaking their head.
âHeâs not in any danger.â Raphael lifts another component from the kit, something wrapped in a towel. They lay it across Luciferâs forehead. He exhales in relief. They try to feed him a pill next, but he refuses it, stubbornly turning his head and clutching the cold compress against himself. Raphael gets even more frustrated when he wonât drink anything they offer him either. Fen has leapt up onto the couch, sensing that Lucifer is too weak to shove him off and cuddling against his legs. His tail wags weakly, clearly able to read the tension in the room as Lucifer turns away from the offered cold water a third time.
âTry it later,â Gabriel suggests. Raphael has this handled, as they always have, but she canât bring herself to leave Lucifer alone.
âHe needs fluids now,â Raphael snaps. There was a time once when no one, not even Lucifer, would have fought them when they were trying to heal. They arenât used to resistant patients. Angels arenât made that way. Humans, on the other hand, only seem able to make their situations worse.
âRaphael,â Michael says. Gabriel sees him squeeze Raphaelâs shoulders. Their face screws up stubbornly before breaking. âItâs alright. Heâll-â
âMichael?â Lucifer interrupts.
He stares up at their oldest brother. Neither Gabriel or Raphael plan it, but the moment Lucifer looks to Michael, they do as well. Gabriel forces herself to look away first. Michael moves to kneel down beside Raphael instead of hovering over them and Lucifer. Lucifer squirms to the edge of the couch to be closer to him. Michael touches his cheek, fingers pulling back momentarily like heâs surprised by the heat before he lets them rest there. Gabrielâs cheek tingles and rubs her thumb against it roughly so that itâll stop. âRaphael,â Michael whispers, âlet me see the bottle.â Raphael hands it over, fists falling into their lap. âSit up, Lucifer.â Michaelâs voice has softened into one Gabriel hasnât heard him use for Lucifer once in their whole stay in her apartment. Lucifer whines protest, but Michael insists, âup, little brother,â and Lucifer finally drinks when itâs Michael holding the lip of the bottle to his mouth.
Raphael has to leave the room. Gabriel watches them go, sighs, and goes to make lunch. Itâs something sheâs able to do, and eventually, the sound of her making dough lures Raphael back out to help. They fall into their clumsy still-learning rhythm, both of them ignoring whatâs happening by the couch.
Gabriel takes something for the headache that develops as she sits in front of the oven and waits for the timer to ring, the dough rising for the second time on the stovetop above. Raphael washes their hands thoroughly. Michael comes to fill the water bottle back up. âHeâs asleep,â Michael says. His voice is so quiet it makes Gabriel want to bang the oven door as loud as she can to wake Lucifer back up. Only that would probably make her own headache worse. She rubs her ankle as it aches. Damn bones. Damn her for getting lazy enough with making this vessel that she couldnât spend a few extra minutes making sure all of it fit together right. All she did was take a tibia from one guy and a try to line it up with tarsals from a girl a century earlier. It wasnât supposed to hurt, wouldnât if she still had her grace. At least everything holds together. Some parts dislocate easier than they should, but she hasnât had to pop anything back into place for the past few weeks at least.
The timer rings, and she heaves herself to her feet. At least she can still make flatbread. Small luxuries. Raphael pokes at the one theyâre handed, breaking off a small piece before the look Gabriel is giving them makes them take a bite. Bigger luxuries come in seeing Raphaelâs eyes light up when they find food they can enjoy. Gabriel packs at least quarter of the flatbread into a container and puts it in a cupboard. Definitely not for Lucifer. Sheâs storing it for someone who isnât sick. If he happens to get better and eat it, then thatâs just a coincidence.
She glances over at her brother. Fen is watching him closely. Good boy.
Lucifer sleeps for most of the day, intermittently woken by Michael to drink more water or by Raphael when they take his temperature. Gabriel takes another pill before the dayâs over, her head aching as she watches Michael bring up the pillows from the van she told him about. He props Lucifer up on one, and Lucifer murmurs something in response tiredly. It has the shape of Enochian, but what Lucifer says is incomprehensible through the haze of his own exhaustion, the limitations of human vocal cords, and his loose grasp on his own language. (They donât speak in Enochian often, mostly to avoid straining their throats, but when they do, sometimes Lucifer gets completely lost, unable to follow what should be basic conversation, and when he speaks back, it never comes out right.)
âMichael is going to sleep on the floor if itâs his choice,â Raphael says. Gabriel hadnât heard them sidle up next to her. She jolts hard, and it makes her chest and shoulders hurt.
âThen let him?â Gabriel says. She doesnât see how itâs their problem if Michael wants to suffer. Heâs tucking a blanket around Lucifer. Gabrielâs hand curls into a fist, and she waves it out. She can see Raphael watching her from the corner of her eye, and theyâre easier to look at than Michael.
âWe have a spare bed,â Raphael says.
âYou have a spare bed,â Gabriel corrects, though calling the air mattress a bed is a stretch. âIâm not letting you sleep on the floor.â Raphael narrows their eyes, and Gabriel almost says, Iâm older, I have to look out for you. She thinks better of it. Itâs not really true, anyway. She just likes to imagine it is, sometimes. (And other times, selfishly, she wants Raphael to be older.)
âIâm trying to ask if I can sleep in your bed.â Gabrielâs mouth drops open a little. She shuts it quickly, licks her dry lips, and answers,
âOf course you can,â before she can talk herself out of it. Raphael looks a little surprised themself.
More difficult is convincing Michael to take the air mattress. He protests about taking Raphaelâs space, but Lucifer isnât moving from the couch and Gabrielâs pretty sure none of them would let him go back down to the van even if he could. In the end, they leave him in the other room, snoring off his fever, and the three of them try to make their nightly routines fit around each other when thereâs even less space. Gabriel doesnât do most of hers. Between finally passing out in bed and brushing her teeth, sleep wins by a landslide. Sheâs out before Raphael even has time to crawl under the covers with her.
Raphael is definitely there when Gabriel wakes up. She knows that because of the metal poking into her mouth. She tries to spit it out to no avail, and instead she whines. Her throat aches around the noise. Raphaelâs hand smooths over her forehead, brushing back sweaty hair and then becoming an insistent press as Gabriel tries to sit up. She doubts she would have gotten anywhere even if Raphael didnât make her stay still. Everything hurts, from head to toe, like someone took a hammer to her muscles and beat them to death. She makes a face around the thermometer again as Raphael draws it out.
Gabriel glimpses the numbers. They look blurry, but she knows theyâre higher than Luciferâs temperature. The worry on Raphaelâs face does nothing to reassure her.
And then, worse, Raphael leaves.
Gabriel canât help the noise she makes, pitiful and high like a wounded animal. She wriggles to get the covers off of her. Sheâs too hot, everything is too hot, and her clothes and her hair stick to her skin. The sheets under her back are uncomfortably damp. She shakes her head and makes herself nauseously dizzy in the process. The whole world spins over her head, but squeezing her eyes shut again doesnât help. She wants to go back to sleep. Nothing hurt when she was asleep.
The thought makes her panic and flail, knocking the covers completely off the bed.
âGabriel,â itâs Michaelâs voice, and then Michaelâs hand gripping her arm, forcing her back to stillness. She curls into him. He doesnât react to her pressing her sweaty body against his, keeping his voice calm. âThatâs better. Donât move so much. Youâre very sick.â Michaelâs hand smooths over her hair.
âI donât want to go back,â she tells him. Heâs Michael. Heâs the oldest, the strongest, and if anyone can keep her here and not- âDonât let me go back. I canât do it again.â The darkness behind her eyelids is too much like that empty place, and she keeps them forced open, staring up at Michael. The light above his head makes an odd halo. He frowns.
âI donât-â
âShe needs to-â Raphael starts. The moment theyâre in Gabrielâs line of sight again, Gabriel squirms towards them. âTo drink,â Raphael finishes, once Gabriel has completely invaded her space. Gabriel presses her forehead into the cold plastic of the water bottle Raphael is holding and sighs.
âI can take care of it,â Michael offers. Raphael doesnât hand over the bottle. Instead, Gabriel allows them to help her.
âYou should check on Lucifer,â Raphael says, but thereâs something more relaxed about their tone. Gabriel smiles. She can be a good patient.
The next few days are torture. Gabriel canât sleep, but sheâs never really awake either. Sheâs always drifting in the nauseous in-between, interrupted every once in a while by Raphael prompting her to drink or helping her to the bathroom. They take Gabrielâs temperature religiously, and Gabriel watches as the number creeps further and further up, the furrow in Raphaelâs brow growing deeper.
Lucifer and Michael flit in and out of her world, too. Michael takes it upon himself to readjust her pillows and pull the sheets out from under her to wash when they get too gross. Lucifer recovers quicker than she did, and more than a few times, she finds him sitting beside her on the bed, pressing his cool hand against his forehead.
(She hears the three of them discussing whether or not to take her to a hospital, and yells as loud as she can - which isnât very loud when her throat is so sore - for them to not do that. They canât afford a hospital bill. Or random doctors seeing whatever horror show is going on inside Gabrielâs vessel. It must work, since she ends that night sweating in her own bed again and not in the ER.)
Finally, her fever breaks. Raphael hauls her out of bed and into a cold shower. Gabriel doesnât have the energy to stand on her own in the shower for long. Raphael joins her. Gabriel rests her head against the shower's wall and lets Raphael wash out her hair. Gabrielâs muscles are still aching, and her throat isnât much better, but her body isnât actively trying to boil her alive anymore. Sheâll take it.
âWhy the long face?â she asks Raphael, catching her expression out of the corner of her eye before Raphael moves away again.
âWhat?â Raphael massages Gabrielâs scalp. She sighs, leaning back into them, despite the annoyed noise they make at how much harder it is to wash her hair like that.
âIâm not dying now-â
âYou were never dying,â Raphael says.
â-so why arenât you happy? You donât have to take care of me anymore.â Raphaelâs quiet for a minute.
âBut I knew how to,â Raphael answers
Gabriel stares down at the dim reflection of her face in the wet shower tiles.
âWell,â she says, âwe could always start poisoning Michael, if you need someone sickly to look after.â She thinks itâs a cough at first, but then Raphael gets louder, and itâs laughter, caught off-guard and unable to be restrained, flavored by exhaustion. Gabriel smiles and snuggles back into them, smearing shampoo all of their shoulder until they get annoyed again.

For day 13's prompt: âIt comes and goes like the strength in your bones.â
Gabriel was right behind him, Michaelâs sure. He turns to spot his brother sitting on a bench, eyes squeezed shut.
âItâs the humidity,â Gabriel grumbles as Michael sits beside xem, âor... Or something.â Xe exhales noisily. Michael puts a hand on xyr knee, and Gabriel hisses in pain. âFuck, stop that!â
âSorry,â Michael says. Gabriel leans into him slowly.
âNot your fault I didnât put my bones together right.â Xe shifts xyr legs and grimaces. âThink you could carry me home?â
âProbably.â Michael has been working out with Raphael...
âI was joking,â Gabriel says. âIâm definitely getting a cane, though.â

"Raph, can I just-" Gabriel starts, tentatively reaching for the tv remote thatâs sitting on the couch beside her before Raphaelâs hand flashes out from between their blankets quick as a snake on a mouse.
"No."
Gabriel sits back, hands up in surrender, and tries to look eager to watch another Bob Ross special with her sick sibling.

(ftm)Trans!Gabriel au. The reason he wheres a full 3 piece suit is due to gender dysphoria, with all the layers you cant tell he was afab. He has a crippling fear of surgeries so the furthest he ever got in his medical transition was taking testosterone which he's fine with for the most part but in public he prefers to present as masculine as possible to prevent any invasive questions
Send âWhat happened!?â for your muse to see mine injured.

Gabriel had been checking the damage done to his face in the mirror and didnât hear Jack come in. Clearly, the other had seen the black eye and blood that painted his face, but Gabriel still tried to hide away from him. He pointedly looked at the ground, his left hand gripping onto his other bicep tightly.
âNothing,â he said in a soft voice, much higher than he wanted, âItâs nothing; Iâm fine.â
