Outside of that, if you do want to write trans woman erik, I would suggest reading not just about trans women's experiences but also political texts by trans women about the discrimination (transmisogyny) they face. A good place to start would be "Whipping Girl" by Julia Serrano - the book coined the term transmisogyny, and I believe it is free to read online. X-men is inherently political as a fandom, and the way that trans women are marginalized would undoubtedly affect how erik moves through the world in this case, and imo without a solid understanding of different stereotypes of trans women and methods of marginalization even among other queer and trans people, the way a trans woman erik is portrayed could get dicey very quickly.

You are absolutely correct of course, trans Erik and dragneto are totally different identities and areas to explore, and I really only focused on trans Erik in my reply.

Jumping into this topic too lightly and hurting people in the process (especially people who are already suffering greatly at a systemic level) is the last thing I want to do, so I receive your book recommendation (and ideas for further reading) with gratitude and will not attempt to explore this topic in fics until I have more education and understanding ❤️

I adore trans Erik and I adore dragneto! It hasn't been something I have considered writing about in the past though, as I am cis and I would take it very seriously to try and not to be misrepresentative.

I've recently been trying to educate myself more about physical disabilities and SCI to write paraplegic Charles, because I was too scared at first but think it is a worthy challenge to try and learn about and portray.

So maybe this could also be a learning curve for me, and something I can try and listen to lived experience about before tackling too?

I often wonder if it is better to let people with lived experience be the ones who write representations, or if it's okay for someone outside of that community to interpret and normalise in our writing? Because I don't think the burden to educate should be on the minority in question, but I also don't want to be talking over people with my lack of understanding.

If anyone has lived experience and opinions on this, please let me know how you feel!

I'm autistic and while there is terrible autistic rep on tv etc I would be happy to read an allistic person's take on an autistic character in their fic, if they had done a bit of homework/approached it with respect. It might be really different for other people though.

Trans!Erik x reader

I sat next too Erik on the park bench one hand holding our milkshake the other holding his, he seemed more nervous than before slightly more jittery. His eyes, a vibrant blue, kept darting across the park from one tree too another back too me. He wouldn't look me in the eyes, he hadn't all night which was unusual compared to his normally outgoing, witty self

"Erik are you okay? " I spoke softly this was only our third date but I'd really gotten too like him

"I'm fine" He mumbled though the crack in his voice betrayed him

"Are you sure? You seem more nervous than you did on our first date" I replied stroking the back of his hand with my thumb hoping to calm him

"There's something I need too tell you. Something I should've said when we first started dating" His voice trembled the more he spoke, his words slipping out faster each time

"What's wrong Kiki? You can tell me anything" I replied hoping to soothe his nerves

"I'm not-I can't..."

"Erik whatever it is you can tell me" My voice shook now laced with worry

"I wasn't born a man I'm trans" His words hung in the air as stared at me silently begging me too say something

"Erik-" I started though he cut me off before I could finish

" I know I should've told you sooner I was just worried how you'd react, I was scared you might think different of me"

I stared at him not knowing how to respond then without thinking I leaned in my lips brushing his in a slow and tender kiss

"Erik look at me" His eyes widened as he looked up like a wounded puppy "I will never ever judge you no matter what. I'm honored you felt safe enough and trust me enough too tell me, but this doesn't change the way I see you at all. You never have too be scared to tell me these things, you're not alone anymore" I whispered pulling him closer, his head now rested on shoulder as he snuggled closer in the afternoon sun.

"Thank you" He responded his breath warm on my neck "Really, thank you"

Charles getting in on T the moment it becomes available

Erik agreeing to medical trials because that’s the only way he can get hormones

Charles getting Erik a prescription once it becomes clear he’s going to stay, so Erik doesn’t have to go through waiting periods or be without or have to search out new trials.

Oh snap here we go

Erik feeling awkward in his own skin for so long. Erik taking to wearing boys’ clothes because that’s what feels comfortable, speaking like a boy, acting like a boy. He pitches his voice lower. Everyone in his neighborhood just taking it in stride; he’s just weird, he’ll grow out of it.

The war.

His family and friends and neighbors shielding him from the Nazis, claiming he really is just a little boy. He develops slowly, but he begs his mother to help him bind his chest anyway. They’re all nervous about what will happen if he’s found out.

When Schmidt finds out, he decides to attempt a surgery or two that he’s heard about that the Nazis have banned.
