This is Kaiate Falls. This section drops down in 3 stages. I had a shower at the bottom of the 3rd stage pictured here. What you can't see is the pool at the bottom. Unknown to me at the time of this photo is that there is a larger waterfall about 10 minutes further down from here complete with tree swings. This is the last swing bridge on the way out of Lake Waikaremoana. I was standing in the middle of the swing bridge getting photos when I hear the first vehicle I've heard in 5 days coming down the road. I couldn't believe my eyes when I got to the other end and saw a bus with school kids getting off it. It turns out I was coming out when Nuhaka School was about to go in. This was so amazing because I got to meet the principal of the school Nick Chapman who asked me if I would like to go to the school and speak to the kids about goals and morals. This school is a KidsCan school and Nick after finding out who I was informed me that most of the bags/packs the kids were carrying were full of KidsCan food and that a lot of the kids had shoes on their feet donated by KidsCan. This was my #sunset on the first night I spent up Mt Tarawera. Even though it's summer it was still cold up there. I took around 1000 photos up there playing with the exposure and shooting at various locations. I couldn't get photos of the stars because of the cloud but I'll save this for the bigger mountains anyway. I'm out of hospital and on the road to recovery. The next chapter of my trip will be either the Whanganui Journey or the mountains. I love sleeping above the clouds. To the left of my tent are the lakes and it's also the way I came to get up here. This is the view from a rock chair someone had built at the summit of Mt Tarawera, the view below is of Lake Tarawera outlet. This was a great place to have lunch because it's half way around the crater which had taken me all day to walk around. The crater from one end to the other one way is 17km long and the views are amazing, from up here I could see all the other volcanos except for Mt Taranaki. On a clear day up here in winter with no humidity you can see them all. This was me last Sunday #hitchhiking back to #auckland from #tauranga. I crossed a bridge where this little kid was scared to jump off, I spent half an hour with him before he finally decided to jump. I recorded the special moment when he jumped on my #gopro. After crossing the bridge I got a ride to Waihi and the next ride I got all the way back to Auckland with the best ride I've ever had with the funniest guy (Leon) and his son (Zak). From the moment I got into the car I knew this ride was going to be choice and it was, turns out Leon is a builder so we had plenty to talk about and not only that he's done something similar to what I'm doing but not quite the same. This is Lake Ōkareka. I was supposed to mountain bike from Lake Ōkataina to here but instead made a wrong (right) turn and ended up riding to Lake Tarawera outlet.
