Staying active and connected to the land is part of our resistance ✊🏼 It’s really cold out and we hope you are prepared for winter. As a zine we promote self care as part of our activism and addressing winter weather for riding, staying active, or avoiding the SADs is part of that. . @greaseragbikes recently shared a cool video that illustrates how they approach dressing for biking v dressing for ice fishing (sedentary). Video via @zest_ed_athletics ・・・ How I dress for 20ºF and running is VERY different than 20ºF and sitting. Most people do realize this, but don’t make it drastic enough. If I’m going to be active in the cold, I need to be willing to start out cold 🥶or I’ll overheat🥵. But then I need to factor in how much heat I’m going to be generating for how long. Some examples:⠀ -⠀ 🚴🏽If I’m biking for less than 20min there is more wind and less energy output than running. I won’t have much time to start generating heat or time to start overheating, so I should wear more clothing. ⠀ -⠀ 🏃🏽If I’m going to be very active (trail running, sawing firewood etc) I’m going to be producing a lot of heat and sweat. It’s going to be important to vent as much heat as possible and then be ready to put on more layers as soon as I stop sweating. ⠀ -⠀ ⛄️If I’m going to be sitting or standing in the cold for more than 10minutes it’s time to bundle the fuck up. I should not be able to wear all the layers and be indoors without sweating. I should not even sort of feel the cold when I step outside. I can’t rely on creating much body heat so I have to trap it as much as possible. ⠀ -⠀ Remember every body is different, adapt not only to the temperature and activity, but how YOUR body responds to these factors. ⠀ -⠀ Was this helpful, do you know someone who could use this tip?
