I love train travel, my partner loves train travel, and her 4 year old son loves train travel. We have come to realise that many neurodivergent share this interest, for a variety of reasons, and we would like to find out what exactly it is that draws so many people towards trains. If you consider yourself neurodivergent and have a particular interest in or enjoyment of train travel (be that metro systems or cross-country trains), we would love to hear your reasons why.
Sharing the train survey one more time! We’re on 81 responses (I’m still kind of reeling to be honest!) and I’m working my way through all the data now. my first oral exam was yesterday and it went pretty well. I was so nervous and had almost to time to study due to poor time management. while i waited for my train i saw them kissing omg haha.

I saw your post about trains and I wanted to suggest that comfort may be an aspect. Retained infant reflexes may cause adults to become motion sick more easily. I am pretty sure I have several of those, probably neurodivergence as well. Not sure the exact relationship between the two and it probably varies by person. But for me, bus travel, especially if there is a smell of diesel, causes nausea and headache. I almost never have this problem on a train. Something about the movement, or maybe the steady speed and the fact that you can move about seems to make it a much better alternative for my health. Or, at least, for getting someplace and not feeling like crap. I like the esthetic of older trains too, but my main reason for preferring train travel is the comfort one. Just an aspect you may want to add to your study. Not sure if everyone experiences less motion sickness in a train, but it might be worth asking. And my guess is that neurodivergent people have more motion sickness in general.
Thank you so much for this! I hadn't even thought of that - I get horrendously car sick and I definitely prefer trains to cars for that reason. I will add it as an option on the survey!
