6月23日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、曇空に恵まれて、身体的な負荷が軽く、ようやく「ロータリーエリア」の清掃を完了するする事が出来ました。 On June 23rd, the road cleaning work at Ako City's traffic park was blessed with cloudy skies, making the physical strain lighter, and we were finally able to complete the cleaning of the "rotary area." 『 ロータリーエリア / Rotary Area 』 今回も、路面の浸食と破壊が最も顕著な『ロータリーエリア』の清掃でしたが、最後に残ったエリアは草たちに浸食された箇所が “比較的” 少なく、曇り空だった事もあり、前回までよりも少し早めに終えられました。そして、これで、ようやく『ロータリーエリア』の清掃は一段落です。後は、定期的な保全作業程度で済む様に願っています。 This time, we cleaned the "Rotary Area," where road erosion and destruction are most evident. However, the last remaining area had relatively few areas encroached upon by weeds, and the cloudy weather allowed us to finish a little earlier than last time. With this, the cleaning of the "Rotary Area" is finally complete. We hope that only periodic maintenance will be necessary from now on.

『 路面破壊 / Road Destruction 』 草たちがアスファルト路面を浸食して、それが路面の破壊を招いている事は何度かお伝えしている通りですが、何故か、この『ロータリーエリア』では多く見受けられます。そして、今回の清掃エリアでも路面に亀裂が走り、縁石と接する部分での崩壊は数多くありました。また、一部、崩壊した箇所をアスファルトで補修された跡も確認できましたが、草たちの勢いは止め切れていません。どちらにしても、崩壊を防ぐ為に、今回も、可能な限り、草を根から抜き去り、余分な土壌を除去していきました。 As we have mentioned several times, weeds are eroding the asphalt road surface, leading to road surface destruction. For some reason, this is particularly prevalent in the "Rotary Area." In this cleaning area, cracks were found in the road surface, and there were numerous collapses where the road meets the curb. We also observed some areas where collapsed sections had been repaired with asphalt, but this has not completely stopped the weeds' growth. In any case, to prevent further collapse, we removed as much weed as possible, including the roots, and removed excess soil.

『 今回の成果 / Results of This Session 』 今回は、約 4時間半の作業で、約26㎡ を清掃し、除去した土砂の量が 40リットルコンテナ 2杯分でした。 This time, we cleaned approximately 26 square meters in about 4.5 hours, removing two 40-liter containers worth of soil and debris.

『 次回の目標 / Goals for Next Time 』 『ロータリーエリア』の清掃は一旦終えて、次回は、草たちによる被害が比較的少ない直線路エリアの清掃を行なう予定です。公園の中央で十字に交わる広い直線路とは異なり、使用頻度が少なかった為なのか、路面表面のアスファルト剥離も少なく、路面の状態は良いエリアです。ただ、使用頻度が少なかった関係か、路面上には砂や小石が多く散乱し、路肩には厚く土砂が堆積し、縁石部分は草たちが浸食しています。しかし、このエリアの清掃を終えた時には、幼児や児童たちにとって、更に安全に楽しめる公園になるでしょう。そして、次回は 40㎡ を目標に清掃を行ないます。 We have finished cleaning the rotary area for now. Next time, we plan to clean the straight road area, which is relatively less affected by weeds. Unlike the wide straight road that intersects in the center of the park, this area has less use, so the asphalt surface is less peeling and the road surface is in good condition. However, perhaps due to the infrequent use, there is a lot of sand and pebbles scattered on the road surface, a thick layer of soil and debris has accumulated on the shoulders, and weeds are encroaching on the curbs. However, once this area is cleaned, the park will be even safer for toddlers and children to enjoy. Next time, we aim to clean 40 square meters.

今日（6/17）の交通公園を撮影しました。すぐ横にある橋の上からです。 I took photos of the traffic park today (June 17th). These were taken from the bridge right next to it.

2年半前、初めて観た時の画像と較べて、草の青さ以外、あまり大きな違いは見当たりません。 Compared to the photos from when I first saw it two and a half years ago, there aren't many significant differences, except for the greenness of the grass.

河川敷の中、ちょっと不思議な光景ですが、僕にとっては魅力的でした。 しかし、公園の中に入ると、僕にとっては悲惨な路面状態でした。 It's a somewhat unusual sight in the middle of the riverbank, but it was fascinating to me. However, once inside the park, the road surface was in a terrible state for me.

だから、2024年3月、路面清掃を始めました。 しかし、公園は広く、土砂堆積は酷く、シャベル1本、ホウキ1本では、一日に出来る清掃は僅かです。 That's why, in March 2024, I started cleaning the road surface. However, the park is large, and the accumulation of sediment is severe, so with just one shovel and one broom, I can only clean a small amount in a day.

でも、例え、橋の上から観て変わってなくても、路面状態は確実に良くなっています。 そして、2年半前と較べて、利用する方も増えている気がします。 だから、一般道での不幸な事故を減らす為に、これからも続けていきます。 But even if it doesn't look different from the bridge, the road surface is definitely improving. And compared to two and a half years ago, I feel like more people are using it. Therefore, I will continue this work to reduce unfortunate accidents on public roads.

【 追伸 / Postscript 】 この撮影をしている時、生まれて初めて、“エイ” を目撃しました。 川の中で黒い影の様に泳ぐ姿でした。 初めは見間違いかと思いました。 しかし、左右のヒレ（？）をはためかす様に泳いでいました。 While taking these photos, I saw a stingray for the first time in my life. It was swimming in the river like a dark shadow. At first, I thought I was mistaken. However, it was swimming with its fins (?) flapping on both sides. 調べると、瀬戸内の海の海水温上昇に伴って、暖かい海の「エイ」の目撃情報も増えている様です。 そして、ここは河口から 3-4㎞ 上流の汽水域です。 彼らの好む二枚貝などの水棲動物も多い場所です。 また、出会える事を願っています。 でも、撮影しても、良い画像は撮れそうにありませんね。 Upon researching, it seems that sightings of rays from warmer seas are increasing due to rising seawater temperatures in the Seto Inland Sea. And this is a brackish water area 3-4 km upstream from the river mouth. It's a place with many aquatic animals, such as bivalves, that they like. I hope to encounter it again. But even if I tried to photograph it, I don't think I'd be able to get a good picture.

6月12日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、路面が最も傷んでいる「ロータリーエリア」の清掃9日目で、今回も草たちが呼び寄せた土の除去作業になりました。

路面清掃報告「草の根」/ Road Cleaning Report: "Grassroots"

6月4日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、路面が最も傷んでいる「ロータリーエリア」の清掃8日目で、今回は “草の根” による破壊の進行がよく理解できるエリアでした。

On June 4th, the road cleaning work at Ako City's traffic park was carried out in an area where the progression of damage caused by "grassroots" activities was clearly evident.

5月8日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、路面が最も傷んでいる「ロータリーエリア」の清掃6日目で、多くの花たちが観ている中での作業でした。 On May 8th, the road cleaning work at Ako City's Traffic Park continued for the sixth day, focusing on the "rotary area," where the road surface is most damaged. The work was carried out amidst a multitude of flowers.

『 花たちの季節 / The Season of Flowers 』 今、公園では多くの花たちが咲いて、ちょっとした花畑になっています。大きな薄紫色の花をつけているのが「ヒルガオ」で、ツツジの後、公園のあちこちで数多くの花を咲かせています。そして、「ヨイマチグサ」が鮮やかの黄色い花をヒルガオに負けない様に高く伸ばしています。更に、小さな花たちも負けてはいません。小さなちいさな黄色の花の「コメツブツメクサ」たちをバックに従えて、「シロツメクサ」がステージ中央で白く球状に広がった花を咲かせています。 Currently, many flowers are blooming in the park, creating a small flower garden. The large, pale purple flowers are morning glories, which, after the azaleas, are blooming profusely throughout the park. And the evening primroses are reaching high, their vibrant yellow flowers rivaling the morning glories. Furthermore, the smaller flowers are not to be outdone. With tiny yellow "clover" flowers as a backdrop, the white clover blooms in a spherical shape in the center of the stage.

それは、今日清掃する『ロータリーエリア』でも同じで、「コヨイマチグサ」が黄色く可憐な小さな花を咲かせています。しかし、ごめんなさい、舗装路面の破壊を止めて、土砂溜まりを解消する為に除去しました。 The same is true in the "rotary area" we cleaned today, where the evening primroses are blooming with their delicate yellow flowers. However, I apologize, but we removed the grass to stop the damage to the paved surface and eliminate the accumulation of sediment.

『 路面を浸食する草の根 / Grass Roots Eroding the Road Surface 』 不思議に思われるかも知れませんが、草たちの根はアスファルト舗装を貫通し、成長に伴って、アスファルト舗装の浸食が進み、やがて舗装路面の無くなり、そこは草たちが生命を輝かせている土砂溜まりになってしまうのです。 It may seem strange, but the roots of the grass penetrate the asphalt pavement, and as they grow, the asphalt erodes, eventually disappearing completely. This area becomes a sediment-filled area where the grass thrives.

『 ロータリーエリアの特徴 / Characteristics of the Rotary Area 』 今回、清掃を進めている『ロータリーエリア』は、何故か、路面の損傷が目立つエリアです。縁石との境目で草たちの浸食が進んでいる点は他のエリアと同じですが、草たちの浸食によって出来る、コースを横切る溝が、何故か、草たちのベルトが蛇行して曲がっているのです。他のエリアではほぼ真っすぐに伸びている事を考えると、原因が何かあるのでしょう。他のエリアが殆ど直線で構成されている一方で、このエリアは円状のコースになっている為、整地や舗装の過程で少し異なった施工になっていた可能性があるかも知れません。 The rotary area we are currently cleaning shows noticeable road damage. While grass erosion at the curb is similar to other areas, the grooves created by the grass crossing the course are strangely winding and curved. Considering that in other areas the grass grows almost straight, there must be a reason for this. While other areas are mostly straight lines, this area has a circular course, so it's possible that the leveling and paving processes were slightly different.

そんな推測の根拠になっているのが “補修痕” です。 この交通公園は、完成した後、幾つかの改修や補修が行なわれた跡が残っていて、アスファルト路面も何度か補修されている様ですが、この『ロータリーエリア』での “補修痕” が特に目立つからです。画像からも、縁石に沿う様にして 幅約 30㎝ の 少し色が濃い “補修痕” が 確認できると思います。 The basis for this speculation is the "repair marks." This traffic park shows signs of several renovations and repairs since its completion, and the asphalt surface appears to have been repaired several times. However, the "repair marks" in this "rotary area" are particularly noticeable. From the image, you can see a slightly darker "repair mark" about 30 cm wide, running along the curb.

『 今回の成果 / Results of This Session 』 今回は、約 5時間の作業で、約25㎡ を清掃し、除去した土砂の量が 40リットルコンテナ 3杯分でした。 This time, in about 5 hours of work, we cleaned approximately 25 square meters, removing three 40-liter containers worth of soil and debris.

『 次回の目標 / Goals for Next Time 』 次回は「ロータリーエリア」の 7日目、いよいよ、中央の円形部分の清掃に取り掛かります。この円形エリアは路面を浸食して繁茂している草たちが多く、草たちの地下茎まで除去している清掃作業ですから、相当に骨が折れる作業になると覚悟して臨みます。なお、画像で掲載の通り、コース路面の中央部で草たちが背を高く伸ばしているという異様な光景が広がっています。また、円形に取り囲んでいる縁石にそって、幅約 30㎝の “補修痕” がある事と、それと古い舗装路面との境に沿って草たちが繁茂している事も確認できるでしょう。 どちらにして、これ以上に舗装路面が浸食され崩壊するのを抑える必要があります。 Next time, on day 7 of our work in the "rotary area," we will finally begin cleaning the central circular section. This circular area is overgrown with weeds that have eroded the surface, and since the cleaning work involves removing even the underground stems of the weeds, we are prepared for it to be a very strenuous task. As you can see in the image, an unusual sight unfolds in the center of the course surface, with the weeds growing quite tall. You can also see a "repair mark" about 30 cm wide along the curb surrounding the circular area, and that grass is growing profusely along the boundary between this repaired area and the old paved road surface. In any case, it is necessary to prevent further erosion and collapse of the paved road surface.

本日（5/8）、2024年春から路面清掃を行なっている赤穂市の交通公園で、2人のツーリング中のライダーが、ぶらりと立ち寄って、練習をしてくれました。 Today( May 8th), at the traffic park in Ako City, where we've been cleaning the roads since spring 2024, two motorcyclists on a touring trip stopped by and practiced their riding skills. 

オートバイは、自動車とは違って、身を守る為には運転技術がとても大切です。しかし、その運転技術を磨く為の機会は全く不足しています。だから、この交通公園の存在はとても重要なのです。自転車も含めて、多くの人の安全を守る機会を増やす為に、路面の清掃を進めて、今日の彼らの様に、いつでも期待に応えられる様にしていきます。 Unlike cars, motorcycles require excellent riding skills to ensure safety. However, opportunities to hone those skills are severely lacking. That's why this traffic park is so important. To increase opportunities to protect the safety of many people, including cyclists, we will continue to clean the roads so that we can always meet expectations, just like they did today.

4月20日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、路面が最も傷んでいる「ロータリーエリア」の清掃4日目は、見掛け以上に手間の掛かる日でした。 On April 20th, the fourth day of road cleaning at Akaho City's traffic park, specifically the "rotary area" where the road surface is most damaged, proved to be more time-consuming than it appeared.

『 路面の崩壊 / Pavement Collapse 』 前回も報告した通り、この「ロータリーエリア」は最も草たちの浸食が厳しくて、アスワルト路面が壊されているエリアです。下の画像の様に、一見、土や砂の他に、草が生えているだけの様に見える箇所でも、その下では路面が崩壊しているのです。縁石に沿って、草たちがアスファルト路面を浸食し、場所によっては路面そのものが無くなっているのが確認できます。次の崩壊を防ぐために、可能な限り地下茎を含めて草を除去する為、意外と手間と時間が必要jになります。 As reported last time, this "rotary area" is the area where grass erosion is most severe, and the asphalt surface is being damaged. As shown in the image below, even in areas that appear to consist only of soil, sand, and grass, the road surface is collapsing underneath. Along the curb, the grass is eroding the asphalt road surface, and in some places, the road surface itself has disappeared. To prevent further collapse, removing the grass, including the rhizomes, as much as possible requires a surprising amount of effort and time.

こうした清掃を行なっても、数か月後には草たちは繁茂してくるでしょうが、可能な限り、草の除去作業を行なっていきます。そうして、より多くの人が安全に利用できる機会を増やしていきます。

Even after this cleaning, the grass will likely grow back in a few months, but we will continue to remove the grass as much as possible. This will increase the opportunities for more people to use the area safely.

『 今回の成果 / Results of This Session 』

今回は、約 5時間の作業で、約25㎡ を清掃し、除去した土砂の量が 40リットルコンテナ 4杯分でした。

『 次回の目標 / Goals for Next Time 』 次回は「ロータリーエリア」の 5日目、中央の円形部分に繋がる通路の内の 3本目の続きになります。前回、ロータリーエリアの清掃を「 ツツジの花が満開になるまでに完了させたい 」と書きましたが、ツツジは咲き始めており、少し達成困難な見通しでした。 「ロータリーエリア」の清掃完了まで 残り 6～7日です。一歩ずつ着実に進めていきます。 Next time, we'll continue with day 5 of our "Rotary Area" work, specifically the third pathway leading to the central circular area. Last time, I wrote that I wanted to complete the cleaning of the Rotary Area before the azaleas were in full bloom, but the azaleas have already started to bloom, making this goal somewhat difficult to achieve. 4月14日、赤穂市の交通公園の路面清掃作業は、路面が最も傷んでいる「ロータリーエリア」の清掃3日目は、根深い草たちとの闘いの日になりました。

On April 14th, the third day of road cleaning work at Ako City's traffic park, focusing on the "rotary area" where the road surface is most damaged, became a day of battling deeply rooted weeds.

『 根深い草たち / Deeply Rooted Weeds 』 過去の清掃報告で、何度か、草たちを根こそぎ除去している事は伝えていると思いますが、今回の草たちには手を焼きました。狭くて手が入らない隙間から数多くの草たちが密集していたからです。かと言って放っておくと、厚い舗装路面を割って生えてきて、どんどんと路面を壊していくので、可能な限りの “根こそぎ” は欠かせません。 I believe I've mentioned several times in past cleaning reports that we've removed weeds completely, but this time the weeds were particularly troublesome. Numerous weeds were densely packed into narrow gaps that were difficult to reach. However, if left unchecked, they would break through the thick pavement and progressively damage the road surface, so "complete removal" of as many weeds as possible was essential.

『 土砂の溜まるロータリー / The Mystery of The Rotary 』 ロータリーエリアの清掃を始めてから考え続けていました。「なぜ、ロータリーエリアには土砂が溜まっているのだろうか？」と。風の向きの影響とか、円形の道路だから？とか。 そして、最も可能性の高い答えに至りました。それは「一番、使用頻度が低かったから」です。過去に路面補修された跡を確認できたので、以前は管理もされていた筈ですが、他のエリアの殆どが直線と 90度の曲がり角で構成されているのと較べて、円形の通路は練習では使われ難いからでしょう。公園の中でのロータリーエリアは、見た目のポイントになっていて、円形通路に沿って「ツツジ」が数多く植えられた綺麗なエリアです。「ツツジ」の花が満開になる迄には、もっと綺麗なエリアにしたいですね。 Since starting the cleaning of the rotary area, I've been pondering: "Why is there so much soil accumulating in the rotary area?" Is it due to wind direction, or because it's a circular road? And I've arrived at the most likely answer: "Because it's the least frequently used area." We were able to confirm evidence of past road surface repairs, so it must have been maintained before. However, compared to most of the other areas, which consist of straight lines and 90-degree turns, the circular pathway is probably less frequently used for practice. The roundabout area in the park is a visual highlight, and it's a beautiful area with many azaleas planted along the circular pathway. We'd like to make the area even more beautiful before the azaleas are in full bloom.
