I like old cars. I'm not talking about hot rods, but those are cool for a different reason.
I'm talking about cars that are just old; the Toyotas and Hondas and Subarus that keep going forever, pickups from when they were work vehicles rather than status symbols, and the rare fluke Saturn or Geo that I see driving around.
Seeing them gives me a little moment of familiarity. Like, "You go, little car! Cars like you keep people like me going. Chug along with your unassuming, hardworking self! Someone's gotta get it done, and I guess it's us."
Also, seeing other old cars makes me feel like I'm supposed to be there, whether I'm pulling up in my Subaru Forester that's old enough to drink, or I'm in something from the last few years for some reason (rental car? Lyft?).
Anyway, just traffic thoughts. I saw a Geo Metro today, and a Ford Ranger from back in the 90s when they were all smol and fuel efficient and easy to see out of.

A lot of the time, just thinking about the concept of American jails and prisons makes me sick.Â
Yesterday, I was sitting in traffic and annoyed that I couldn’t get to Pluckers as quickly as I wanted to. I realized there was a jail nearby, full of people in cages that are being beaten, starved and treated like animals. It’s something about being near sadness and hopelessness (I think our justice system is pretty hopeless at the moment) and not being able to do anything about it. It was just wild to me that I was out doing exactly what I wanted and in a building a few feet away from me, people can’t even use the restroom when they want.Â
