TPP Updates! Some ideas and updates from the past few months.

They’re seniors now lol.

For the purpose of tightening the story and well and enjoying their dynamics as high schoolers who are about to transition into young adults. I want the status quo to be established then broken and rebuilded once they move into a new environment. Both their high school lives and college lives interest me so I wanted more room to do both.

“They’re not not a club!”

a joke I’ve been saying to myself. Many students come to the gang for help dealing with whatever issue dealing with Unnaturals they have.Hoping just to expand what they do in the plot more. While the Unnatural Hunters Association handles all the big monster problems around town,The kids deal with more personal issues and overlooked mysteries around union. Still a fun monster of the week structure. They’re not a school official/affiliated group!! The principal hates them!!

Changing the beginning:

Robyn and Lucas meeting before the first day of school

Robyn is a part of the high school program at the lab and Lucas visits the lab from time to time since his dad is the director. So there’s a likely chance they’ve crossed paths at some point. Especially since they’re wouldn’t be many people their age around the lab.

Playing with the idea of Robyn not sure what she wants to do as a research project. She may have many ideas stirring but can’t pin it down exactly. The events between then and the first day or class help inform her. Since Lucas helps her it feels more like their idea project together than something Lucas inserts himself in. (Still love the Brains-Robyn Muscle-Lucas dynamic)

Small Character updates

Blake is also a new student along with Robyn.

Perhaps Robyn transferring schools in her senior year feels more suspicious (looking to do much more exploration there tbh). For Blake, since he's not a “rival” but antagonizes the gang in the beginning, I think it would be interesting if he didn’t have a preestablished relationship with four of the main characters before meeting Robyn.

Kenzie cheer captain.

I sorta flipped flopped where she should be in the high school social hierarchy. But settled on cheer captain so that her getting kicked off and losing her friends feels more weighty (also she needs to be meaner and annoying when she antagonizes the gang) Recovering mean girl….

Random bits of TPP lore I felt like changing because:

Unnaturals are a recent appearance. as recent as the 50s. (previously is was the beginning of the last century but I thought of bringing it to the mid century so that it's a more recent supernatural phenomenon and that studying them is a recent science)

They didn't just come out of nowhere. there was the first instance was a giant that appeared out of a fracture in the sky in Union, causing a catastrophe thats shaped the city. since then unnaturals big and small have been appearing. one day I'll get into specifics.

Magic system update 1: Getting rid of the unnatural color tiers.

(this) I think it was a fun and was meant to be an easy tell to understand threat level. but I feel like it confused the overall magic system. I think I'll still keep the colorful cores and stuff in design but not over complicate it.

4. Magic system update 2: Getting rid of poten types. (previously there were 3 distinct type; Materialization, manipulation, and Elemental.) Similar to update 1, it felt like a fun idea but over complicated the magic system. And I want the magic system to be more softer and I feel like an audience can understand people having different abilities without having to specifically categorize it.

5. The addition of more past significant events. not anything specific but just a worldbuilding note for me to add important events unnaturals have caused in union to really make the world feel thought it lol. bc it's a recent thing I feel like that in current day there are people still alive that should remember these events affecting their lives.

6. Character update: I was debating it but I decided that Clarissa is not poten anymore. Robyn, Lucas and Mark felt really tied to their powers but as a developed her she didn't feel as tied to have supernatural abilities bc it felt like was becoming more practical. And I like the idea that only half the team actually has abilities. and I really like the idea of clarissa thinking having cool powers makes her more interesting to people especially her crush. And trying anything possible to get them but never becoming poten is a fun dynamic. as a creative person she ends up being a important part of the team with just and old beat up baseball bat.

• Blake has a twin brother named Kaleb. They live separately :( (Blake in Union with their dad and Kaleb in San Francisco with their mom)

• Blake moved to Union around middle school.

• Lucas, Mark, Clar, and Kenzie have all been going to the schools since elementary. Mark and Kenzie since kindergarten, Lucas since 3rd grade, and Clarissa since 5th grade.

• ive scratched out Clarissa doing cheer in the past and being rivals with kenzie bc it doesnt really fit their characters anymore. I think like Kenzie as the mean girl the group ends up befriending. And i find the idea of Mark and Lucas becoming friends with clarissa through a co-ed softball time really cute.

• Maya, Robyns old roommate, also has a huge crush on Robyn. While feelings are complicated i think they still try to be friends.
