He slipped. He slipped. How could he have allowed himself such a mistake. How could he have slipped? The grass was dewey from the rain. All he wanted was to stop The Doctor from running away. And he slipped. The Doctor's head immediately clicked to the sound of the splash as the Toymaker vanished from sight. This wasn't good. This wasn't right. All his control was gone, just gone. He couldn't even think straight. His mind was going a mile a minute, frantically jumping one way or another. He swallowed a deal of water in a last ditch effort to get the hell out of there, forgetting that he was an all powerful deity that could snap his fingers and be fine, dry even, on land. But he couldn't think. It was too dark. It was too cold. It was silent, oh so silent. He felt suffocated as his eyes dared to snap shut like the mouth of a marionette. He reached out his arm as he lost consciousness.

and he felt another's hand grabbing his torso, bringing him up to the surface.

When they made it back to the grass, he lay limp on the ground, feeling slowly returning as he felt pressure pushing against his chest, threatening to crack it or cave it in. He could hear faint, frantic pleas from his savior, and as he finally opened his eyes, he was met with The Doctor..'s mouth as he leaned down and met the Toymaker's gaze. Upon seeing the Toymaker's wake, he stumbled back.

"Chest compressions weren't working, at least it didn't seem that way to me, so, uh, I was going to try CPR, but-"

"Why?" the Toymaker wheezed out. "Why would you save me? You could have left me there."

"Because I know you, Toymaker. You easily could've saved yourself and you didn't, and I know why. Not even you deserved that." His eyes showed sympathy.

The Toymaker just frowned as he pushed The Doctor off of him and got up, dusting off his clothes. "I would've been fine on my own."

"You can't fool a timelord, Toymaker."

The Toymaker bit his lip, looking away from The Doctor. He then smiled widely. "Aw, vut it is ge-fun to try, is it not?"

"I was just looking at the ducks. Aren't they pretty?" You smiled innocently, returning your gaze to the gentle creatures floating atop the water. You'd briefly grazed the top of the lake with your hand, feeling it calm your mind. You always loved the ducks, their quacks giving you a distraction from the real world. You had intended to go back to the toyshop, obviously. So what was wrong?

"Get away from there." He had a clear hostility in his voice.

"Why? I planned to come back, I promise-"

"I don't care, just get away from there!" His voice had a slight shakiness to it. You'd never heard anything like it from him before.

You got up and walked back to your celestial lover. "I'm sorry, did I do something wr-"

He held you against his chest tightly, his heart, or whatever he did have, racing fast. He took a deep breath, returning to his usual self. "Nein, meine liebling. I have, shall you say, ein history vith zhese ducks."

"A history?" you snorted.

"I- ja, ein history." He let you go gently. "Let us return to ze shop, ja?"

"Alright, fine by me. I didn't.. mean to scare you."

"Nein, unsinn! It vas ze ducks I was not ge-trusting, ist all, ja."

You smiled. "Right, the ducks you have history with."

"Mein dear, I have ge-history vith all sorts of creatures. Ducks are paling in comparison."

He opened the shop in 1952. The toys were beautiful. The parents noticed the children changed after playing with them. By the time they figured it out the toys had figured it out first.

Things that last too long develop opinions. His toys developed opinions. The opinions were not good ones.

The jack in the box was wound up in 1953. The handle turns on its own now. Nobody touches it.

The two children came for a birthday present. They are about to get one. It is not what they asked for. The toymaker considers this the same thing.

1. Toymaker doesn't care what you are! Any gender, any sexuality, any race, any ethnicity, any religions, he hates you all equally. The only people he hates more than normal are people who hate what he loves (i.e toys or marionettes or etc), karens of any kind who buy something and come back complaining about what they buy, The Doctor, and probably the Pantheon of Gods idk yet. Especially Lux tbh

2. He's deathly afraid of water. Not in a sense that Sonic from Sonic Boom is, but like. absolute terror when he encounters water. Stems from his PTSD. It's cold (not always but yk what I mean), it's dark, it's deep, it's deafeningly quiet, it's suffocating, it can kill you if you're not careful. Reminds him of something else. Something he wishes never to go back to. Although, I assume that's where he is at the end of the special? I mayyyyyyyyyy be making a yumefic based off this specific headcanon.

3. This is just a very personal headcanon, I think he's Agender (masc presenting), Asexual and Pan. He uses any pronouns yet prefers masc terms and would ABSOLUTELY love the concept of neopronouns. He is sex repulsed cuz <33 I like giving that specific asexuality to characters I love

4. He's clueless about certain human stuff and it's hilarious. "Why do you complain about bleeding every month? Who hurt you so badly that the wound opens up for a week EVERY month?"

5. He listens to his favorite songs on repeat and has a whole ass playlist. I mean he DOES know Spice Up Your Life by heart clearly, bc look at him dancing in the special

6. If he loves an older song, but it has a line or smth that didn't age well, he'll just cut it out whenever he listens to it, again, just like the special. No discrimination here. Also applies to slurs in newer songs, even if they can reclaim them.

7. I've posted about this before but he age regresses! He often does it in private, and if he regresses and a customer or someone comes in, it's kind of easy to tell he's acting off because he's trying to mask it and failing. He also loves playing with his toys a lot when he does regress. He didn't have a childhood or anyone to care for him so The Doctor, in a non TimeToys universe, reluctantly becomes his caregiver until he realizes what the Toymaker really wants is love.

8. He's very, VERY autistic about marionettes [not self indulgent at all]
