Isaac made it back to the loft and just collapsed on the couch, dead tired. When his phone started ringing in his pocket, it felt like a struggle just to lift it out of his pants pocket, though his heart rate spiked when he realized it was Ethan calling. The chaos of taking down the Mute (more permanently than expected) had put the afternoon’s events firmly out of mind, but now they were flooding back at breakneck speed.

“Mostly, yeah. I can’t get a firm lock on their scent in this wind, but I can definitely catch enough to know that they’re not like us. Werewolves have a very, very strong smell, so unless he’s somehow adept at hiding it at that age, something I don’t think even Derek or Peter were capable of, he’s not a werewolf. I mean, each werewolf has slightly different flavors to their scents…Derek is more like a fluffy dog, Peter’s is that, but soaking wet and half-rolled in stench, Scott smells more…sugary, or maybe syrupy…there’s a sweetness to it, and Ethan’s is more cinnamon tinted…” Isaac caught himself rambling. “The point is I can tell when someone smells like a werewolf, and none of those three do.” As soon as he said it, a different scent also caught Isaac’s nose though, and he recoiled slightly. 

“Isaac?! Isaac what is it?” Scott asked in a slight panic.

“It’s…blood. Someone here smells faintly of blood. Not fresh, not recent, but they’ve had someone’s blood on them…that isn’t their own…”
