I suppose this is a good moment to actually talk about the experience of doing it, and this may encourage/discourage people who are on the fence abt it.
So like, the prosudure itself is kinda chill, but if you don't like dentist visits and getting needles stuck in your mouthparts for numbing this may already be an issue. Another thing is it is Tiring to lay there for 20-40 minutes with your tounge out, your neck or jaw may cramp up, but you should always be able to ask for a break!
Another Huge thing is The Drooling. It may not seem like a big deal, but this is by far the most annoying thing from begging to end of healing. I highly recc bringing a spitting bottle with a wide neck to use for draining the saliva, you will not be able to swallow much the first couple of days (mainly to drink and to eat, which will also need to be liquid). It will be hard to sleep, prepare a bunch of towels for your pillows and keep a spitting vessel at hand at all times. You should generally be able to fall asleep after 12-14 hours since the surgery, and this is why they ask you to be well-slept before it!
And of course, you will Have to stay sileant untill the stitches get undone! This may be a huge issue for all of the emploid folk, and I imagine spending a weel of your vacation drooling in bed is not very enticing either :(
Now, if you're sensitive to not being able to eat as you like for about a week, the next stage may also be a challenge. What helped me A lot was stocking up on liquid porridge, this is pretty much all I could ingest other than water for the first 2 days. Later you'll be able to do yogurts and puddings, Very smooth fruit and/or veggy pure, child food in general. I also sifted very liquid mashed popatoes through a metal uh, sifter thingy? You want that shit Smoooothh if you'd like to eat as much as possible as comfortably as possible. I suppose stocks may also be a good idea, but make sure they don't have Any particulats, other than maybe very soft, small bits of caramalized onions (even then, don't recc). Day 4-5 is when I was able to actually strart chewing, so I sustained on spinach omlettes a lot. Otmeal or grinded bananas will prolly be okay too.
During this entire time you will be Aqutely Aware of stitches on yoyr tounge, it is not pleasant, but only painful for the first day if you follow all the recs, Don't use your tounge much and take sufficient pain releaf meds. Also for the love of god Don't use stuff like chlorhexidin or similar anti-septics, get a regular mouthwash thing, make sure it doesn't have any alcohol and use that twice a day (rly no reason for more) You will likely be unable to brush for the first couple of days, but then it becomes easier by the day. On day 4 I also Very Carefully cleaned my tounge from a build up of stuff, which accumulates on it because it can't maneuver it off like it usually would. Don't stress if you can't though, just make sure to rince your mouth with plain, boiled (and cooled!) water after every meal (whitch can actually get quite annoying when you can ingest very little at once and need to eat pretty much every half an hour), and it'll be good.
After you will get you stitches removed, which I do recc you do on day 5 if possible, bc Idk if I could have made it with stitches 2 more days in my case, they get rly annoying the longer you heal.
The removal itself can be quite unpleasant, you will sharp, pinching pain when they pull the thread, but it is also Very Quick, mine took maybe 3 minutes. and after that, YOURE FREE!!!
It genuinely gets exponentially better after that, the first day you will still be sore, you will talk funny for some time, but every new dawn will be a bigger relief, and after a week you'll be practically back to normal.
Now, sensetivity Will return slowly, it's nearing a month after mine got cut, and it feels very close to normal, mainly, just seems as if it's coated with something numbing a little.
You will also Need to play and exercise with it for best results! Especially the first week, it's important if you want the gap to close as little as possible (the lobes will refuse a little at the base of the cut, this is normal and the master usually takes this into account, my cut Looked quite deep even though I asked for a shallow cut, but it healed Exactly how I wanted it, the master was Really good in every sense)
Now I also advise consultation in advance, depending on your individual anatomy and your desired outcome, the result may be disappointing! If you want a very deep cut, but you have a shout tounge, it may turn out a bit underwhelming for you personally. Communate with your master about it and make sure they are a skilled professional who has a lot of experience with different tounges :В
And good luck! I Looove my split and For me it was worth all the money and inconvenience, and besides, it's a Permanent thing!!! I get to have till the day I die! Rly a great deal in my book ^^
