Lips pursed and twisted, Beau scowled down at the assortment of postcards. One arm tightly behind his back, he took one off the rack and examined it with a raised brow. Hattie… Another one had the hitchhikers. Next to that, Constance. All in all, there were six different designs, but only those characters to choose from.
He turned to look at the Cast Member at the register. She was busy marking notes in a ledger. They were supposed to close in ten minutes. When he cleared his throat, she looked up.
“Need some help, sir?”
“I was wondering…” He put the card he was holding back and approached her. “Do you have anything with the Ghost Host on it?”
She wore the smile of someone who was pulling though the tail end of a fourteen hour shift and was dreading putting it a minute over. She tilted her head in sympathy and made an “aw” noise. “Favorite character?”
He slowly blinked. “Yes.”
“Well, we have the hat.” She gestured to a baseball cap that simply had GHOST HOST in embroided, white letters.
He frowned. “Well, it’s something… I’m not quite a hat man, though. No, uh, sweatshirts or t-shirts?”
“Yeah, but they have the Hatbox Ghost on them.”
The frown deepend. “Magnents?”
“Bags of novelty candy?!”
With a defeated groan, he slapped the hat down onto the counter. “Fine. And Cast Member discount…”
She scanned it and began putting it away neatly in a plastic bag. “Oh, cool, where do you work?”
His eye twitched as he handed her the money. “Splash Mountain.” Then with a far too wide grin, he took the bag and said in a low, soft voice that made the temperature drop about ten degrees, “Have a magical day…” Then he and his single piece of merchandise vanished.
