Well I officially hate Topfin brand products now...... Their stupid heater malfunctioned and killed all my fish. My fish were fine and almost to their 2 year mark of living in the tank. My tank heater was a bit younger around only one year but this week it decided to go rouge. It's sensor shut off and it continuously heated the water until it was steaming and past the highest point on the thermometer. Needless to say all of my fish except my pleco are now dead. (Plecos can temporarily breath air to avoid asphyxiating from the heat) and now I am very angry. That was $20 dollars worth fish not to mention the emotional attachment I have to them After a little research I found this is a common occurrence among topfin heating products, and they conveniently don't have a method to contact them about their poor quality products I highly recommend no one buy any electronic material from pet-smart Topfin brand material for the sake of safety of their own fish.

In response to the question about the Top Fin tank: I would suggest the 12 gallon Fluval Edge. It's a bit pricey, but it divides very nicely, has a sleek and stylish look, the filter is practically silent (and super easy to clean), it plants well, and it's great to heat. The filters for these are also incredibly easy to baffle, unlike some of the other tanks I've dealt with before. If you don't mind shopping around a bit you can find them second hand or on sale usually for a decent price.

The goldfish one doesn’t include a heater but the tropical fish one does. It’s a few bucks more but less than buying a heater separately.

YOU CAN ALWAYS CHANGE OUT THE FILTER TO SOMETHING SMALLER. I GOT A TETRA WHISPER 2-10I FOR MY 5 GALLON TANK, BUT IT’S GOING TO MY NEW 10 GALLON AFTER I’VE PLANTED IT. IT’S DONE WELL FOR ME AND IT’S REALLY QUIET. IT DOES TAKE UP SPACE ON THE INSIDE, BUT IT’S EASILY HIDDEN BY PLANTS IN THE CURRENT SETUP I HAVE. TEN GALLONS SOUNDS PERFECTLY FINE, JUST MAKE SURE THAT THE DIVIDER CAN’T BE BREACHED BY EITHER BETTA.
