ive been turning around a Black kakashi in my mind for a bit now! so, for the melanin beam challenge by @creatingblackcharacters , i decided to try and nail down hairstyles for each era of their life.
lore and headcanons below
academy years: sakumo does their hair for them. cornrows that loop around and feed into asymetrical off the scalp braids.
war years: sakumo is no longer alive. zero hair care, barely bathing. they shave it all off whenever it starts to bother them.
anbu years: neutral relationship with their hair is returning. needs a very protective hairstyle due to work, so keeps it in box braids. they would go back to flat twists / braids if it wasnt visually triggering.
jonin years: twists with added hair. missions no longer involve as much blood, sweat, and grime. they have more downtime overall. its been long enough since sakumos death that they have rebuilt a positive relationship with their hair.
retired years: no longer needs a protective hairstyle. they keep their classic asymetrical look with a very stylized afro. and have two long locs with wooden accent beads that have the hatake family symbol carved into them.
