omg yes i love talking about this 🥺

so i think their cuddling positions vary depending on the day, and where they are

usually when they’re on the sofa eddie sits between richie’s legs and leans his head back on richie’s shoulder to give easy access for if richie wants to kiss him on the forehead while he wraps his arms around eddie’s stomach

he likes to feel like he’s keeping eddie safe (he thinks that’s something he’s gonna need for the rest of his life after seeing pennywise take eddie’s left arm from him)

however sometimes when it’s really late at night and they’re at that point where they’re sleepy but can’t be bothered moving, they can be found with eddie lying down on the sofa, and richie on top of him with his head on eddie’s chest

richie calls himself eddie’s blanket and says that eddie is his pillow in return

i think that they like to spoon in bed and perhaps this is controversial 😩😳 but i love eddie being the big spoon!! in richie’s past relationships he’s always been the bigger of the two so he’s never really gotten to experience being the one gets held rather than the one who holds the other because none of his past girlfriends asked if he would have liked to try it

and honestly until eddie asks, richie doesn’t know it‘s something he wants

“hey, rich, do you want me to cuddle you tonight?” eddie asks one evening, maybe a year and a half after he moves to california to be with richie

it takes them a long while to work up to intimacy with each other, and they’re still getting there with the help of therapy from professionals

“what do you mean, eds? we cuddle every night, now.”

“no, i know—i mean, wouldn’t you like to try letting me hold you for once instead of the other way around?” eddie watches richie begin to understand what he means, but he continues before richie has the chance to accept or decline, “i know that it’s important to you, being able to protect me, but i hope you know i always feel protected with you, regardless of the situation.” eddie takes the oppurtunity to tuck richie’s hair away from his face

“let me hold you to sleep, Rich, i promise if you hate it we don’t have to do it again, i just think you’ll be glad you tried it.”

and eddie’s right because it really is a wonderful feeling, eddie’s bare chest up against his back is so intimate that his body warms with it, he’s craved this kind of contact for so long without even realising it

plus eddie gets to kiss the back of his neck as much as he wants and gently squeeze his hip to make him laugh

richie certainly has days where he feels like he needs to curl up around eddie to make sure he’s safe but he’s an absolute sucker and will melt for the way it feels to have eddie cuddling him to both of their hearts’ content

oh my god yeah 😭

eddie moves in with richie in california and they have to get a bigger bed because despite having enough money to buy a hundred king sized beds, richie never opted to buy one because he lived alone until now and so much space left around him where he slept would have made him feel more lonely :(

so they decide on a bed together and when they bring it home to set it up it goes about as well as you’d expect

they literally cant get the sheet on, every time they fit it over one corner, it comes off the other and they just can’t figure it out LMAO richie tries to tell eddie that they have to both hold two corners and fit them around the mattress at the same time but eddie complains that his arms are too short to be able to do that

(richie laughs, eddie pouts, richie kisses him until he’s laughing)

and because they can’t get the sheet on the bed, they don’t get around to putting anything else on it and end up spending that night squeezed together in richie’s smaller bed, it’s okay though they like to cuddle

the next day they call mike and bill and ask them to stop by richie and eddie’s house while they’re on their travels so that they can help richie and eddie make up their bed

Richie wraps his arms around Eddie’s hips, pulling him in against his side so that they can curl up together at the end of the sofa. Eddie aches with the touch, Richie’s fingertips spreading along his arm burn to his epicentre, igniting his veins like the wick of a bomb, as he waits, yearning, for the ebullition.

Richie, though, is right here, lips against his temple n’ well intentioned palms keeping their bodies together n’ safe. Keeping him safe. Richie, his salvation.

thank you so much for taking for taking interest in my headcanon it means a lot!! 🥰 i’ve had this au on my mind for quite a while but i’ve never gotten around to writing it, so i’m glad people wanna hear about it hdjshdj

@reddieloves suggested that it actually be switched around and eddie could be the demon and richie the angel which i love!!! i definitely considered this when i first started thinking of the au and i think for now i’ll go with it :)

eddie’s the brave type and i think that would have him pushing stan to do risky things that could definitely have some negative consequences but in his opinion, the thrill is more important than the possibility of something going wrong so why not go for it? richie’s a lot more cautious, and he usually just chastises eddie gently because he’d rather be nice than argue, but he can’t help going into a strop when eddie starts to get a little flirty or just tries to talk about random things like the different diseases he’s heard of with him to take his focus and distract him from his responsibilities

the real loser in this scenario, though, is stan. he has to deal with them for every waking moment, they only quieten down at night to let him sleep and sometimes he thinks that they forget they’ve even got a job to do—they talk all through his classes and bicker when he tries to have a conversation with his dormmate—he just feels thankful that everyone can only hear their own angel and demon because god he thinks he must’ve gotten the two who were the absolute worst at their jobs and that’s not a dramatic statement at all

when stan is maybe twenty one he starts to notice that occasionally he’ll wake up to find eddie crawling back up onto his shoulder and lying down as if he’d been there the whole time, but stan doesn’t really know where he’d be going. richie and eddie usually just lay down on his shoulders and stay quiet to let him rest or they go to sleep themselves just to pass time, not that they need it. i think he’d let it go the first couple of times but when he manages to undeniably catch him in the act, he asks eddie where he keeps going and not surprisingly, eddie refuses to tell him anything—richie stays quiet as stan interrogates eddie, but stan supposes he wouldn’t know much about eddie’s devious antics anyway

one night he decides that he’ll pretend to go to sleep so that he can find out where eddie’s going and it actually works, maybe fifteen minutes after stan’s eyes close and his breath evens out eddie’s climbing off of his shoulder and he thinks he can feel his feet quietly pattering across his chest? he’s not too sure, but then he hears—

“eds, we’re going to get into trouble for this.”

“but that’s the fun part, rich.”

“no it’s– i mean– i know trouble is your whole thing but you know that’s not what i meant.”

eddie sighs and richie continues—

“this is the kind of thing you’ll actually be punished for.”

stan cracks his eyes open just enough for him to be able to see that eddie has in fact moved over to his right shoulder where richie sits, and he’s holding one of richie’s hands in both of his own and kissing the back of it gently

“i won’t try to tempt you anymore if it makes you uncomfortable, rich, just say the word.”

ahh okay so i think that richie and eddie decide to try not to let on that they maybe feel a certain way for each because cOnflict of iNTereSt

and i think that richie, while clumsy and fumbling with his job, wants to do right by stan and worries that stan won’t take him seriously anymore because he let himself be tempted by a demon—not exactly the most threatening of demons but a demon nonetheless and it’s his main job to steer stan away from temptation

but of course stan overheard everything and already knows that something’s going on with them but like he decides to not mention it because that way during the day he won’t have to deal with seeing how richie and eddie act around each other when they think he’s sleeping

and also he gets to enjoy watching them try and fail miserably to hide whatever it is they’ve got going on now

i think richie starts to loosen up once the whole thing between him and eddie goes down, he seems more comfortable firing back at eddie with jokes and retorts

it’s pretty clear that he loves to make jokes and do impressions and has been itching to do so the whole time he’s been on stan’s shoulder

but he’s always wanted to do well at his job, he needs to feel like he’s doing good and he’s always feared failure

interacting with the one who was meant to be his enemy hasn’t ever seemed like the path to success

but eddie’s nice, he’s brave and likes risk, he’s not really doing any harm by pushing stan to an adrenaline rush—because richie knows that eddie wouldn’t ever really urge stan towards anything that could be actually dangerous because he does care about him—so richie figures it couldn’t hurt to let himself get to know eddie

richie’s actually pretty funny, stan decides

and clearly eddie thinks so too

richie will say something and eddie will snicker behind his hand, until richie says something else that eddie finds funnier and then he’s full on laughing, light and airy

and yet when the laughter finally dies down he makes sure to remark:

“you’re so not funny, rich.” you know, because he’s still a demon and can’t be too nice, he has to keep up appearances, but he’s still smiling and the gentle ache in his sides from laughing so much is a happy little giveaway to what he really thinks

richie knows it, of course, and not for a second does he believe eddie thinks he’s unfunny

they slowly start to ease up, figuring that stan has enough going on not to notice

one day stan has an important exam he has to do really well in

around half way through when he’s thinking about one of the questions, he notices that it’s oddly quiet

usually richie and eddie continue to talk regardless of what he’s doing or how important it is

he hasn’t even heard eddie gently encouraging him to maybe take a look at the person next to him’s answers

he looks to his right shoulder, and richie isn’t there ????

so he turns around to meet the sight of eddie sitting on his shoulder with richie laying down in the same place, his head in eddie’s lap

and eddies petting the back of his head

he’s also holding richie’s halo in his other hand

he probably took it so that it wouldn’t fall when richie laid down

“i mean if you think about it i’m really doing a bad thing by letting him sleep on the job, and this way he can’t stop me from doing my job.”

the logic behind it is very flawed

stan knows better though of course

he decides to let it go and spare all three of them the pain

and he doesn’t mention that eddie is technically not doing his job anyway

it is still very painful for stan though

maybe they think they’re being super secretive and doing a good job of hiding it but stan thinks that even if he hadn’t known beforehand because he’d overheard them he probably still would’ve figured out at least some of what was going on
