What do they think about before falling asleep at night? (yerin)
yerin has a lot of worries, especially for the iron islands and how the greenlanders treat them and their people. they worry about their wild sisters who get into trouble and sow chaos wherever they please. they think about the one son that remains to him and how to protect him from the conflict of their ruling lieges, if her plans of trade and expansion beyond the old ways had made her soft. she thinks of her liege spouse's presence and if they are ashamed of her choices and show support out of pity for a grieving mother or if she has their support in what she's been trying to accomplish. she thinks about another world where she never allowed suho to ward under the greyjoys, if she kept both boys close, or sent even further.
she thinks about this kingsmoot that has brought the realm together with alliances that may never even come to fruition, the promises made for one's house that care little consideration for the smallfolk. yerin runs over the list of potential allies, enemies, and neutral parties that she may partner with or at least build a relationship to establish trade when this is all over (if it doesn't kill them all first).
she thinks of her last moments with suho before sending him back to pyke. how she packed small treasures of his favorite interests, a new set of pens, shirts made from durable yet soft materials, the best they could afford, the package of sweet hard candies she ensured was shipped all the way from lys. words of love did not come easy to her but yerin showed her loved ones in gifts, in the burdens she carries for them. it wasn't enough. she could not have taken that blade in her youngest's stead.
but the one constant she thinks about before she falls asleep every night is the raging sea, the waves crashing on shore, and how it once felt to have the salty breeze run through her hair. the freedom abroad a ship, the rocking of it beneath her feet, the ocean's lullabies lull her to slumber.
