A long, long time ago, I stayed with my Grandma in Oklahoma during summer break while I was in college. Coming from California, I always had trouble sleeping, but thankfully my Grandma had lots of books. She had a whole shelf of #tonyhillerman books. I would open all the windows wide to cool down and listen to the crickets. I’d burn cedar incense and read till I passed out. I read every single one of them and loved them. I recently watched the new show #darkwinds on @amc_tv based on this series and it took me back to those memories. My Grandma is no longer around and I miss her so much. I wish I could watch this series with her and discuss what we liked and ask her questions like I used to. I decided to #read the #books again. It being the holidays, I’ve been thinking about my Granny a lot and remembering the good times. I spent my college summers with her in Oklahoma and would often have trouble sleeping. One summer I read her shelf of John Grisham books and the next summer I read her shelf of Tony Hillerman #books. I really loved this series. Many nights they kept me awake instead of helping me fall asleep. So I thought I’d revisit the series. It transported me back to those hot summer nights, the smell of Cedarwood incense, and the excitement of trying to solve each mystery night after night.
