“The 9 of Swords is associated with anxiety, particularly ruminating on negative thoughts that keep you up at night. I didn't want to be too literal with the meaning so I just played around with my style of illustrating. I chose to go with samurai swords, inspired by that scene from Kill Bill with all the Hattori Hanzo swords on a rack. I love the simplicity of Japanese design and included the distinctive wave texture as a nice backdrop, lit up with a fiery gradient.”
