DIRT documents: [# 17]
Converted vehicles are created when existing vehicles are modified into something they were never originally designed to be.
Some conversions are built for practicality while others are driven by personal taste. Pickup trucks made from compact cars, vans transformed into campers, and custom bodies fitted onto modern chassis all reflect a desire to create something that manufacturers never offered.
Theres a rebellious motive that I admire to transform the landscape and make something that doesn’t exist. These projects often require extensive fabrication and planning in order to be complete. For many builders, the appeal is not simply owning a vehicle but creating one that feels unique to them.
Although most people drive vehicles exactly as they left the factory, converted vehicles continue to exist as a niche culture built around individuality. They represent the idea that everyday objects can be reshaped into something more personal, even when they were originally designed for a different purpose.
There’s a deeper meaning into pushing boundaries and seeing how creative we can go by imagining these ideas with vehicles in general.
